Celebs share their struggles with mental illness

Dwayne Johnson, Demi Lovato, and Shawn Mendes are just a few of the famous faces who have opened up about their struggle with mental health and inspired others. Before becoming the megastar he is today, the Rock revealed that he once hit a low point and battled depression: “I was crying constantly.” Singer Shawn Mendes spoke out about his secret battle with anxiety in his new song “In My Blood.” Mendes said, “That song is complete truth, and the best thing about it is, it’s not all down. The whole reason I wrote this song was to be like, at the end, ‘It’s not in my blood to do that.’” Demi Lovato has been vocal about living with bipolar disorder. She’s a mental health advocate who is adamant about fighting the stigma. “I just think mental illness is something people need to learn more about.” Lovato is now co-owner of the Comprehensive Assistance Support Treatment [CAST] Centers, whose wellness and recovery program helped her during her battle with substance abuse. Last year she celebrated five years of sobriety.
