Celebrity Tributes Pour in for Leslie Jordan
The beloved actor and comedian died at the age of 67.
Emmy Award-winning actor and comedian Leslie Jordan, whose prolific career includes memorable roles in The Help, Will & Grace, American Horror Story, and so much more, passed away on Oct. 24, at the age of 67.
The difficult news comes not long after the passing of other icons like Robbie Coltrane and Loretta Lynn.
Now, fans and friends everywhere are mourning the loss, and many celebrities who knew or worked with Jordan are sharing their reactions to the sad news.
Jordan's agent, David Shaul, released a statement (via Variety) about his death: "The world is definitely a much darker place today without the love and light of Leslie Jordan. Not only was he a mega talent and joy to work with, but he provided an emotional sanctuary to the nation at one of its most difficult times."
He continued, "What he lacked in height he made up for in generosity and greatness as a son, brother, artist, comedian, partner and human being. Knowing that he has left the world at the height of both his professional and personal life is the only solace one can have today.”
Sean Hayes, who shared the screen with Jordan on Will & Grace, wrote about how "Everyone who ever met [Jordan], loved him," in his goodbye to his "dear friend."
One of Jordan's other Will & Grace co-stars, Megan Mullally, shared a long, very sentimental and honest message about her friend, writing, "leslie jordan was, hands down, one of the greats. people use that expression a lot, and i’m not sure it’s always applicable. there aren’t that many people who are truly great at anything. but leslie was flawlessly funny, a virtuoso of comedy."
Eric McCormack, who played one of Will & Grace's title characters, shared his thoughts on his friend's passing as well.
Jordan's co-star on Call Me Kat, which he starred on since its premiere in 2021, Mayim Bialik, also honored the "larger than life" man on Twitter.
George Takei of Star Trek and Mulan commented on Jordan's passing, sharing how "stunned" he was to hear the news.
Lynda Carter, known to many as Wonder Woman, commented on how Jordan was a bright spot for many, especially during the pandemic, bringing much-needed laughs to everyone struggling through a tough time.
Jordan, who was gay and outspoken and proud of his identity, was also an icon for the LGBTQ+ community.
The official Twitter for RuPaul's Drag Race posted a short tribute to Jordan, writing, "Thank you for the countless laughs and for sharing your spirit with us all."
Bobby Berk of Queer Eye also tweeted in response to the news, sharing how sad he felt.
TV journalist and producer Katie Couric wrote about how "sweet and comforting" Jordan was when posting about his death on Twitter.
After hearing the news, Meghan McCain, daughter of the late Senator John McCain and ex-host of The View, said that "There are not enough wonderful things to possibly say about Leslie Jordan in just a tweet."
Actor Jim Parsons shared an extremely touching post on Instagram in response, saying that Jordan "was funny as hell and had a depth of emotion that made everyone around him feel loved."
Clearly, the late actor touched many people's hearts, as tributes continue coming in. Another big name, Michelle Pfeiffer, also responded on Instagram. She wrote about Jordan's positive effect on the world, before writing, "Such a talent. Such an extraordinary human being. Such a loss. Rest well my friend. 💔."
Andy Cohen spoke about Jordan on his Instagram Stories, saying, "I just think it’s so sad. Who wants to live in a world without Leslie Jordan. What a sweet, funny, life-affirming, wonderful ray of sunshine that Leslie Jordan was. Um, I just, to know him was to love him.”
He shared how grateful he was to have him on Watch What Happens Live With Andy Cohen, as well as New Year’s Eve Live with Anderson Cooper show, saying that he was “just thinking we should get him back on this year!”
Cohen went on to post a couple of clips from both shows featuring Jordan and his intense ability to make you smile.
