The way HBO's Euphoria inspired all of us to try bold makeup will remain one of the most influential moments in the beauty world.

Doni Davy, the mastermind behind the show's breathtaking looks, initiated a wave of people adding jewels and crystals to their otherwise simple makeup looks for a fun, youthful, and sparkly twist. And with the return of season two and the start of a new year, crystal eye makeup is only going to become more popular this year.

According to Pinterest Predicts report, there was a 110% increase in searches for crystal eye makeup over the last year. The platform predicts that the makeup trend will only continue to surge in searches making 2022 a brighter and more sparkling year — well, at least when it comes to makeup.

Crystal eye makeup isn't just pretty to look at, either. It's also versatile — whether you're looking to completely do up your makeup look with bedazzled eyeliner or add a single crystal to the inner corner of the eyes for a pop. And celebrities are loving it, too — ahem, Dua Lipa, Storm Reid, and Amanda Gorman.

So, how can someone who hasn't tried crystal eye makeup get in on the trend? How do you apply the jewels, where are good places to put them, and how can you remove them without irritating your skin? We tapped celebrity makeup artists to answer all of our questions.

How Do I Do Crystal Eye Makeup?

The first step to mastering this trend is gathering all of your tools. You're going to need a pair of tweezers, lash glue adhesive, and crystals. "To do this trend, simply pick up the jewel with your tool and apply a small amount of lash glue to the backside of the jewel," says Billie Gene, a celebrity makeup artist. The Kiss Strip Eyelash Adhesive ($3, amazon.com) works great for this.

"Allow the jewel to dry a few seconds and then place it where you desire." To make your crystals last throughout the day, Gene says to make sure you aren't skimping out on the glue. "Be sure to cover the majority of the base of the jewel with adhesive."

Beginners can also try jewels with adhesive already on them, like the Simi Haze Beauty Eye Play Gem Pack ($38, simihazebeauty.com). "This allows you to try out the trend and explore different colors and styles of jewels to see what fits your lifestyle," says Gene.

Another pro tip that's important to consider is the size of your crystals. Cara Lovello, a celebrity makeup artist, says the smaller the crystal, the harder it is to apply. However, she loves a smaller size crystal for a subtle makeup look. "It may be a little trickier to put them on, but I promise they will look so much better," she says.

As far as where to place your crystals, Gene says to think about where you want the most attention. "Some tips for choosing your jewel placement is deciding where they will get the most attraction," he says. "Some of my favorite places to apply jewels are in the inner corner of the eyes, the upper lash line, and the lower lash line," Lovello says around the eyebrow also offers a fun look.

But no matter where you choose to apply your crystals, the most important thing for beginners and skilled makeup lovers to remember is to have fun. "There aren't any rules with this trend," says Gene. "Feel free to explore this daring beauty trend."

Once it's time to remove your crystals, opt for a cream or oil-based makeup remover. "It allows the jewel to lift off the face with ease without causing any irritation," says Gene. The Farmacy Clearly Clean Makeup Removing Cleansing Balm ($34, sephora.com) is a gentle, fragrance-free formula that melts even the most stubborn makeup while also moisturizing your skin.
