Each year, the New York City Marathon has plenty of celebrity participants, whether running in support of a charity or cause, longtime runners of the race, or just looking to check it off their list like everyone else. Last year was no exception, as the streets of New York resembled a red carpet with the number of music, movie, and TV stars going for a personal best. During last year’s race, Ellie Kemper said the marathon was the “worst day of” her life.

So, who can New Yorkers expect to be cheering on this time?

Confirmed notable runners this year include the Bachelor star Matt James, who will be running in support of ABC Food Tours, Catfish’s Nev Schulman, who will not only be running his eighth marathon in support of Achilles International, and TODAY correspondent Sheinelle Jones.

Other notable entrants for the marathon include Bruins star Zdeno Chara, fresh off his Boston Marathon run earlier this year. If Boston sports aren’t your thing, Yankees fans will be delighted to have some representation as Samantha Judge, wife of home run king Aaron Judge, will be running to support Kulture City. Joining her will be Emily Rizzo, wife of Yankees first baseman Anthony Rizzo.

For those more into music, pop singer/songwriter Harry Hudson will be running for Team New Balance, and Patina Miller, the Grammy and Tony award-winning singer, will support Komera.

The race, of course, takes place on Nov. 5, so you’ll have plenty of time to prepare if you hope to cheer on friends, family, or maybe a celeb or two. Until then, you can read up on a few more celebrities you may not have known are runners and see how you stack up against their marathon exploits.

Each year, the New York City Marathon has plenty of celebrity participants, whether they’re running in support of a charity or cause, longtime runners of the race, or looking for a new challenge.

This year was no exception, as the streets of New York resembled a red carpet with a number of music, movie, and TV stars going for a personal best.

Here’s how the celebrities and notables performed in the Big Apple.

Matt James (3:04:50)

It’s no secret that Matt James, the star of season 25 of The Bachelor, is athletic. He played football at Wake Forest University and is a avid runner. James ran in support of ABC Food Tours this year and finished with Shalane Flanagan.

The 2017 NYC Marathon winner who retired from professional running in 2019 was back on the course this year for fun, running for Mastercard.

Nev Schulman

The host of the reality TV show Catfish will not only be running his seventh New York City Marathon. He’ll be serving as a guide for a visually impaired athlete, in partnership with Achilles International.

TJ Holmes

Holmes ran the marathon last year alongside Amy Robach (below), which... shall we say... was complicated. Holmes and Robach co-hosted the program GMA3: What You Need to Know on ABC. But after allegations surfaced that they had an affair, they were both let go. Holmes will try to beat last year’s time of 4:25:31.

Robach will line up on Staten Island for the third time. She ran 4:25:30 last year and has also participated in the New York City Half Marathon in the past.

Sheinelle Jones

The Today correspondent, who turned 45 this year, will be running her first ever marathon. She says she’s out to prove that she can still challenge herself. “I want to prove that just the average girl, we can do it,” she said on the show. “I am 4’11”. I am not a model. I’m not a runner, but we can do this!”

Zdeno Chara (3:19:19)

While Sheinelle Jones isn’t quite 5 feet, you’ll definitely be able to pick Zdeno Chara out in a crowd. The 6’9” hockey legend caught the running bug recently. He ran Boston in 3:38:23 this year and wants to do all six World Marathon Majors.

Casey Neistat (3:01:27)

The YouTuber and NYC vlogger is back again, running his seventh New York City Marathon. This year, he set a personal best on the course by almost two minutes.

Patina Miller

Miller is a Tony award-winning actress who also played Commander Paylor in the Hunger Games movies. Last year, she won a Grammy for Best Musical Theater Album for her work with Into the Woods. Luckily for us, she’ll be singing the national anthem at the start line on marathon morning before setting off herself.

Samantha Judge (3:31:44) and Emily Rizzo (3:47:54)

If you kept a keen eye out on race day, you might have spotted New York Yankee stars Aaron Judge and Anthony Rizzo cheering on their wives. Judge ran in support of KultureCity, which works to provide accommodations to those with sensory processing disorders, while Rizzo laced up for the Anthony Rizzo Family Foundation.

The comedian and podcaster launched a YouTube channel about his fitness journey last year called Cody Trains (no, it’s not about model trains). He completed his first Ironman in May, so this won’t be his first time going the distance.
