Whoopi Goldberg, Gigi Hadid, and Shonda Rhimes are just some of the celebrities deactivating their Twitter accounts.

Celebrities are fleeing Twitter following Elon Musk $44 billion dollar acquisition of the social media app on Oct. 27.

A growing list of stars in Hollywood has stated they are done using the platform following changes the Tesla CEO has made, including his proposed decision to charge users a monthly fee of $8 to obtain a verified checkmark on the app.

Celebrities Who Have Announced They Are Leaving Twitter

Whoopi Goldberg

Goldberg announced Monday on The View that she will be getting off of the social media app, and her account has since been deactivated.

“People keep saying it’s free speech, but all speech is not free speech,” Goldberg said. “Some speech is not OK free speech. So everybody has to agree on that, but if people keep saying ‘You hurt my free speech’ it’s going to be a problem. You know what? This is our problem. But it ain’t my problem today because I’m out.”

Amber Heard

The actress and Musk's ex-girlfriend has reportedly deleted her Twitter, per CNN. While Heard has yet to state her reasoning for leaving the app, it is likely due to her former boyfriend's acquisition of the social media platform. Her Twitter handle @RealAmberHeard no longer exists.

Shonda Rhimes

On Oct. 29, the creator of the hit show Grey's Anatomy announced that she is "not hanging around" to see what the CEO of SpaceX has planned for the social media app.

Sara Bareilles

The "Love Song" singer announced that she will be seeing her followers on other social media platforms, stating that Twitter is just not for her anymore.

Gigi Hadid

The model announced in a now-deleted Instagram Story, per Buzzfeed, that she will be exiting the social media app.

"I have deactivated my Twitter account today," she wrote.

"For a long time, but especially with its new leadership, it's becoming more and more of a cesspool of hate and bigotry, and it's not a place I want to be apart of."

She continued, "Only sorry to the fans who I've loved connecting with for a decade via Twitter, but I can't say it's a safe place for anyone, nor a social platform that will do more good than harm."

Her account @GigiHadid no longer exists.

Toni Braxton

The R&B singer announced that she is staying off Twitter and is "shocked and appalled at some of the 'free speech'" she's seen since Musk's acquisition.

She noted she is choosing to "stay off Twitter as it is no longer a safe space for myself, my sons and other POC."

Ken Olin

The executive producer for This Is Us also announced his departure from the app.

Mick Foley

The retired professional wrestler took to his Facebook page to announce he is taking a break from the app.

"I decided I needed a @twitter break, since the new ownership - and the misinformation and hate it seems to be encouraging - has my stomach in a knot. I really do enjoy connecting with all of you on social media, but it can get overwhelming sometimes. I think I’ll be back on in a few weeks, but in the meantime, I will continue to post on Facebook and Instagram. I hope all of you will be kind to one another. Please vote if you can too - our democracy seems to be hanging on by a thread," he wrote.

Erik Larsen

Comic Book creator and artist for The Amazing Spider-Man tweeted back in April, per NBC News, "the day Elon Musk buys Twitter is the day I delete my account and leave Twitter."

Larsen confirmed in an email to NBC News that he had, in fact, deactivated his account, stating, "Yeah, I left. I said I would leave if Musk bought Twitter. Musk bought Twitter. So, I had no choice. The move only emboldened those most toxic users. The racists, 'patriots' and creeps are back in full force."

"I have no regrets," he added.

Alex Winter

The Bill & Ted actor has locked his Twitter account, allowing only approved followers to see his Tweets. Winter's Twitter bio reads "left here for here" with a link to his account on Mastodon, another social platform which has garnered 230,000 users since Musk's acquisition, according to CNN.

Marina Sirtis

The Star Trek: The Next Generation actress has deactivated her Twitter, per an email from NBC News.

"If I needed confirmation that leaving Twitter was the right move, Musk’s tweet about the attack on Paul Pelosi (which he later deleted) and the avalanche of hate that I received when I announced I was leaving, reinforced my decision," Sirtis said in a statement.

Téa Leoni

Leoni, who stars in the CBS political drama Madam Secretary announced that she is departing from the app.

"I’m coming off Twitter today — let’s see where we are when the dust settles," she tweeted to her followers, per NBC News. "Today the dust has revealed too much hate, too much in the wrong direction."

The Verge recently reported that Musk is considering putting the entire site behind a paywall, which would further drive away more users. This is a running list and we'll update it accordingly.
