'Celebration of Life' event to be held by Department of Social Services

May 10—CALDWELL COUNTY — On Friday, May 17, at Mountain Grove Baptist Church, Caldwell County's Department of Social Services will host the 51st annual Celebration of Life event for Caldwell residents who are 60 and older. The celebration will begin at 8:30 a.m.

The event will feature information booths, door prizes, entertainment and lunch to fulfill part of the Department of Social Services' goal of recognizing and appreciating these residents and providing information about supportive resources and opportunities for vital social interaction, according to a press release from the department.

"Every May," according to a statement by the Department of Social Services, "the Administration for Community Living leads the nation's observance of Older Americans Month, a time to recognize older Americans' contributions, highlight aging trends, and reaffirm commitments to serving the older adults in our communities. The 2024 theme is Powered by Connection, which recognizes the profound impact that meaningful relationships and social connections have on our health and well-being. Our hope is that we all recognize the vital role that connectedness plays in supporting independence and aging in place by combatting isolation, loneliness, and other issues ... Please join us in celebrating the contributions our older adults have made and continue to make in our community."
