Celebrate World Chocolate Day with truffles, ice cream and more at these 6 Fond du Lac businesses
FOND DU LAC – Did you know there's another holiday on the heels of the Fourth of July?
Friday is World Chocolate Day, celebrating all things cocoa since the holiday's establishment in 2009, though it commemorates the first time chocolate was brought to Europe in 1550, according to National Day Calendar.
Fond du Lac and its surrounding communities are no strangers to chocolate, offering plenty of opportunities to celebrate the international holiday.
From meltaways to melty ice cream, here are six places to get a chocolate fix Friday — or whenever the next craving hits.
CC's Chocolates
CC's Chocolates, 57 N. Main St., gained popularity the last few years in Fond du Lac for owner Claudette Rahmer's handmade chocolates, as well as cheesecakes, cupcakes, brownies and other confections.
The cafe, which has a drive-thru window, also serves breakfast, lunch and coffee, alongside other drinks.
CC's Chocolates is open 7 a.m.-5 p.m. Tuesdays-Fridays and 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturdays.
Mix It Up Bakery
Mix It Up Bakery, 64 N. Main St., serves up fresh-baked goods every weekend, with plenty of opportunities for a chocolate fix.
Most well-known is its selection of donuts and cupcakes, but the bakery also offers cookies, bread and more.
Mix It Up Bakery is open 6 a.m.-1 p.m. Fridays-Saturdays and 7 a.m.-noon Sundays.

Faris Popcorn
While strawberry shortcake is the popcorn flavor of the month, Faris Gourmet Popcorn, 770 W. Scott St., has a variety for chocolate lovers, from a simple drizzle to summer seasonal banana split.
More available popcorn flavors include hot fudge sundae, Neapolitan, rocky road, cookies & cream and s'more.
Faris is open 11 a.m.-3:30 p.m. Mondays-Wednesdays and 8 a.m.-3:30 p.m. Thursdays-Fridays.
Kelley Country Creamery
For a colder chocolate treat, Kelley Country Creamery, W5215 County Road B, has you covered.
July's flavor of the month is Cup of Joe — coffee ice cream with peanut butter cups — and this month's sundaes include Under the Stars with chocolate ice cream, caramel, chocolate cake crunch and sea salt caramel truffles; Happy Camper with caramel and caramel swirl ice cream, hot fudge and chocolate-covered cookie dough; and Raccoon Tracks with chocolate and vanilla swirl ice cream, Kit Kats, chocolate chips and chocolate syrup.
Kelley Country Creamery is open 11 a.m.-8 p.m. Wednesdays-Sundays.

Gilles Frozen Custard
As one of Fond du Lac's only drive-in experiences, Gilles Frozen Custard, 819 S. Main St., is often the place to be in the summer.
In addition to classic hot fudge or turtle sundaes, Gilles has three variations on a brownie sundae and a Fudge Boat sundae with bananas, marshmallow, crushed nuts and hot fudge. Additionally, frozen custard by the scoop is available, as well as the signature Gillie Cookie — frozen custard between two chocolate chip cookies.
Gilles is open daily 11 a.m.-10 p.m.
Guth's Candy
With a family tradition dating back over a hundred years, Waupun has confectionary Guth's Candy, 928 E. Main St.
Guth's variety of chocolates incorporates nuts, caramel, toffee and cream centers, while the rest of the shop's offerings include coffee, popcorn and gummy candy.
The shop also recently installed a new soft serve machine, reintroducing shakes and malts and offering "Flavor Burst" cones.
Guth's Candy is open 5:30 a.m.-7 p.m. Mondays-Fridays, 7 a.m.-6 p.m. Saturdays and 8 a.m.-7 p.m. Sundays.
