Lunar New Year (also known as Chinese New Year), occurs on the first new moon of the year, usually sometime between late January and February. This year, which is the year of the tiger in the Chinese zodiac, Lunar New Year is on Feb. 1.

Lunar New Year is a time for families to gather and celebrate together, eat delicious meals, share gifts, and decorate and clean their homes to usher in good luck for the year. If you're exchanging gifts in celebration of the new year, it's always a good idea to know what not to gift, too. Stay away from black and white items (which are often given at funerals), necklaces (which are usually reserved as a gift for partners), or a clock (which is considered bad luck).
