A rare total solar eclipse is making an appearance across North America on April 8, 2024, and it’s a wonderful opportunity for parents and kids to enjoy astronomical magic in real time.

Bill Nye the science guy let us know why it’s a must for families of all ages to get out there and watch the moment the sun, moon, and Earth line up, if they can. Don’t forget to wear solar eclipse glasses if you and your kids plan to watch as staring directly at the sun can cause eye damage. (Here's a list of ones that will still arrive on time.)

As if the solar eclipse itself isn't awesome enough, some beloved brands across America are celebrating in fun ways. Dive into the deliciousness below.

Krispy Kreme's Oreo Doughnut

From April 5 to April 8, families can head to Krispy Kreme for a doughnut that looks kind of like a total solar eclipse. The glazed doughnut comes dipped in black chocolate icing and is topped with silver sprinkles, buttercream made with Oreos, and an Oreo cookie.

“Eclipses are rare and so is our out-of-this-world Total Solar Eclipse Doughnut. Even if you can’t be in the path of totality you can get in the path of these treats, which you will eat in totality,” Dave Skena, Global Chief Brand Officer for Krispy Kreme, says in a press release, referencing where people can easily see the full eclipse.

SunChips’ New Flavor

The brand has the word “sun” in its name so it makes sense for it to celebrate. Starting on April 8 at 1:33 p.m. CT, SunChips is releasing a limited edition flavor: Pineapple Habanero and Black Bean Spicy Gouda.

What will it taste like? “Pineapple Habanero and Black Bean Spicy Gouda blends ingredients reminiscent of sunny skies and bright days ahead while nodding to the moon with a cheesy touch,” the brand says in a press release.

The brand also partnered with astronaut and parent Kellie Gerardi, who says, "Total solar eclipses are rare and special events, and I hope people can take a moment out of their busy lives to pause and enjoy the incredible sight. That's why I'm so excited that SunChips is commemorating this rare celestial event by offering fans a chance to get in on the fun with their exclusive Solar Eclipse flavors."

Families can grab a bag at SunChipsSolarEclipse.com.

Burger King’s Eclipse Whopper

On April 8, the fast food chain will hand out free burgers in honor of the last total solar eclipse visible in North America until 2044.

To participate, Royal Perk members can text “ECLIPSE” to 251251 to get the buy-one-get-one Whopper BOGO deal. The deal can be redeemed through April 15 through the Burger King app or on its website.

Pizza Hut’s Total Eclipse of the Hut

Families can celebrate the solar eclipse by eating pizza—it's shaped like a full moon after all. On April 8, Pizza Hut is offering a large pizza for $12 for what it's calling a "Total Eclipse of the Hut."

The deal works for create-your-own pies with up to 10 toppings or three options, including Thin ‘N Crispy, Hand-Tossed Pizza, and Original Pan Pizza. Families can grab this through takeout, while dining in, or delivery.

Smoothie King's Special Flavor

Smoothie King is celebrating with the already released Eclipse Berry Blitz, available for a limited time.

This smoothie is made with bananas, wild blueberries, apple blueberry juice blend, white grape lemon juice blend, protein blend, and blue spirulina (a nutrient-dense superfood made from blue-green algae).

Families who get a 20oz or larger size may also be able to leave with free eclipse glasses at participating locations in New York, Texas, Ohio, Indiana, and Arkansas.

Moon Pie’s Survival Kit

MoonPie released the limited-edition Solar Eclipse Survival Kits—aka boxes of chocolate, vanilla, or banana mini MoonPies. Families can get these online at MoonPie.com or at Dollar Tree, Walmart, and select grocery stores.

The 2024 Total Eclipse Survival Kit, which comes with four chocolate minis and two solar eclipse glasses, are only available online but the company says it's no longer able to ship to specific areas in time.
