Celebrate National Library Week at the Rock Island Public Library

The Rock Island Public Library invites you to check out some awesome programs for National Library Week!

National Library Week is April 7–13, and the Rock Island Public Library has something special for every age and interest:

Monday, April 8

NASA Eclipse Viewing 12:00-3:00 p.m. at the Downtown, Watts-Midtown and Southwest locations. Watch a livestream of the eclipse via the NASA video feed. A limited supply of solar eclipse glasses will be available at each location while they last.

Read Newspapers Online – Without Paywalls how-to session on using the library’s Newsbank subscription to “clip” items from the digital edition, 3:00-4:00 p.m. at the Downtown Library Community Room. Registration is required here.

Tuesday, April 9

Toddler Tales, 10:30 – 11:00 a.m. at the Watts-Midtown Branch. Preschoolers and caregivers can enjoy stories, songs and action rhymes. More information here.

Seek Out Jobs and Computer Skills, 4:30-6:00 p.m. at at the Downtown Library computer lab. Learn drop-in job search and computer skills. More information here.

Family Craft – CD Suncatcher, 6:00-7:00 p.m. at the Southwest Branch. Use CDs and embellishments to make a single suncatcher or string of CDs for a unique garden mobile. Registration is required here.

Wednesday, April 10

Petite Picassos, 11:00 a.m. – noon at the Southwest Branch. Kids 5 and under can use all of their senses with hands-on art. More information here.

History with the Rock Island Arsenal, 2:00 p.m. at the Downtown Library. Explore the history of the Civil War with Rock Island Arsenal historians. More information here.

Thursday, April 11

Downtown Movie Club, 1:00-3:30 p.m. at the Downtown Library Community Room. Check out the latest movie based on Alice Walker’s classic book, ‘The Color Purple.’ More information here.
