How to celebrate Mother’s Day in San Diego

SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) — With Mother’s Day less than a month away, it’s not too late to start planning ways to make the incredible women in your life feel loved and appreciated.

Mother’s Day this year is on Sunday, May 12. To help you get some ideas, we’ve compiled a list of things to do and places to visit in San Diego County to spoil your guest of honor, whether it’s your own mother or other relatives and friends with kids of their own.

Seabreeze Craft Chocolates

Seabreeze Craft Chocolates is hosting an opportunity for kids to make their own edible gifts for their moms this Mother’s Day. On May 4 from noon to 3 p.m., the chocolate shop and acclaimed chocolatier Jim Lantry will help kids create personalized truffles with various toppings and flavors. Additionally, the shop offers specialty rose and heart-shaped bonbons and chocolate bars like rose, merlot, almond, honey jasmine, strawberry mint and more.

Candle-making by Landin Home

Learn how to make your own custom candle to gift your mom for Mother’s Day, or bring her along with you to this candle-making workshop hosted by Landin Home, and sip on a complimentary glass of wine during the process. The event will be held Thursday, May 2 from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Cork & Stem in Hillcrest at 1035 University Ave.

Urban Plates

With locations in La Jolla, Carlsbad and Del Mar, Urban Plates is focused on serving nutritious, clean meals like sustainably sourced salmon, chimichurri steak and garlic shrimp. On Mother’s Day, the restaurant will offer a complimentary house-made chocolate pudding for the first 150 moms to dine in, and the first 100 will also receive a rose.

The Marine Room

Treat your mom to breathtaking views of the Pacific Ocean at the Marine Room in La Jolla. The elegant restaurant is hosting a special Mother’s Day menu on May 12 from noon to 7 p.m. Appetizers include uni from Santa Barbara and octopus carpaccio as well as truffle risotto with Kaluga caviar. Main courses include a citrus miso glazed king salmon, prime skirt steak, Alaskan halibut and more. Reservations are encouraged.

Rumorosa

This Cali-Baja restaurant located at Sheraton San Diego Hotel and Marina on Harbor Island is offering Mother’s Day brunch on Sunday, May 12 with a buffet-style menu. Mothers will receive a complimentary rose, or custom flower crowns created by a local San Diego florist for an additional $45. Parking is free for up to three hours.

Of course, there are many other ways to show your love on Mother’s Day. Whether it’s by treating her to a restaurant and spa date or by going for a nice stroll along the beach, the most important gift is spending time together.
