These Celeb-Loved Shorts Are the Dad Shoes of Pants (and They’re Trending Again)

When it comes to dad shoes, no other shoe has dethroned them. Dad shoes are dad shoes are dad shoes. But Bermuda shorts are the dad shoes of pants and they’re currently trying to steal the spotlight. Let me explain.
It all started with lockdown and working from home. Dad shoes were poised to maybe fade out of style as other shoes came into the fold, like babydoll shoes and square-toe sandals. Instead, when socialization became a foreign concept, everyone just started wearing chunky sneakers for errands and walks around the block. The reality is that quarantine gave dad shoes an advantage. After Birkenstocks, they were probably the shoes most frequently worn this year by celebrities and the masses. And that has definitely paved the way for other easy-to-wear dad styles like Bermuda shorts.
Bermuda shorts have been happening for a while now. Earlier this year, leather Bermuda shorts popped up all over fashion week. But wearing leather pants for a day mostly spent sitting at home seems uncomfortable and impractical. So it seems celebrities have been gravitating to cargo and denim Bermuda shorts for the temporary new normal. They’re comfortable enough to do the bare minimum in but their dad reputation makes them subversive and thus trendy.
Gwenyth Paltrow, Emily Ratajowski, Hailey Beieber, and Gigi Hadid have all given Bermuda shorts their seal of approval. And with fall approaching quickly, their infamous not-too-short-not-too-long length makes them the perfect transitional piece. Basically, we’re about to start seeing them everywhere from a six-foot distance.
