CCC&TI & Caldwell County Schools to offer Extreme Super Summer Camps for kids

May 2—This summer, Caldwell Community College and Technical Institute (CCC&TI) and Caldwell County Schools (CCS) are partnering together to bring back "Extreme Super Summer" camps for kids ages 5 and up, according to a press release from CCC&TI.

CCC&TI's camps will be offered on the Caldwell Campus with students separated into different age groups to allow each program to be customized with age-appropriate activities. Cost for each Super Summer session is $100, except where noted, and includes a 30-minute early drop-off, 30-minute late pick-up, and a snack, according to the press release.

CCS camps will be offered at various school campuses across the county, with early drop-off and late pick-up. CCS hosted camps are free but space is limited, according to the press release.

Registration for Extreme Super Summer is ongoing until camps are full. Registration is first-come, first-served and is available online at https://bit.ly/ExtremeSuperSummer.

CCC&TI Super Summer Offerings

Following is information on CCC&TI's "Extreme Super Summer" offerings on the Caldwell Campus in Hudson:

Babysitting Training with Intro to Child & Baby First Aid/CPR (Ages 11 and up)

June 10-13; 8 a.m. to 12 p.m.

Cost: $100

This camp is designed for students who love kids and have an interest in babysitting. In this camp, students will learn basic childcare techniques like properly changing a diaper, bottle feeding, child behavior, child safety skills. They will also create a variety of engaging age-appropriate activities to use while babysitting. Students will make a bag and fill it with projects/games to take with them while babysitting.

Basic Car Care 101 (Ages 12 and up)

June 10-13; 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. or

June 17-20; 8 a.m. to 12 p.m.

Cost: $100

This camp is designed for students who love hands-on activities and don't mind getting dirty. Students will learn how to check tire pressure, change a tire, install brakes, check the oil, change and refill automotive fluids, inspect engine hoses and belts, jump a battery, use car lifts and jacks, build an emergency kit, and perform other minor quick fixes. This session will be taught by a licensed automotive service technician/instructor in the automotive lab.

Health Career Exploration Camp (Ages 11 and up)

June 17-20; 8 a.m. to 12 p.m.

Cost: $100

This camp is designed for the student thinking about going into the field of healthcare. Students will explore careers such as nursing, medical assisting, phlebotomy, radiography, imaging, nuclear medicine, speech language, pharmacy tech, ophthalmic medical assisting, massage therapy, human services and more! Campers will be introduced to various careers through demonstrations, hands-on experiences, and role play.

Arts, Crafts, and More...

June 17-20; 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. (Ages 5-8) or

July 8-11; 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. (Ages 9 and up)

Cost: $100

This camp is designed for students who love art and love to make things with their hands including painting, molding clay, or just combining things to make an art project. In addition to creating a variety of clay pieces, students will be introduced to drawing, painting, collage, sculpture, weaving, and creating much more.

Cosmetology Beauty Camp

June 24-27; 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. (Ages 8-12) or

July 15-18; 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. (Ages 13 and up)

Cost: $100

This camp is designed for students who love doing their hair, skin and nails! This camp introduces students to the world of cosmetology and teaches the fundamental principles of hair styling, makeup application, skin and nail care, and product knowledge along with other beauty tips and trends. The session will be taught by a licensed cosmetology instructor in our salon lab.

BioTech & Advanced Manufacturing Exploration Camp (Ages 9 and up)

June 24-27; 8 a.m. to 12 p.m.

Cost: $100

This camp is designed for students who are interested in learning how medicine is made, how to create and design with 3D printers, and how to create tools using computer technology. The advanced manufacturing exploration camp introduces students to the

exciting world of pharmaceutical manufacturing, 3D printing and design, and computer-integrated machining.

Skilled Trades Exploration Camp (Ages 14 and up)

June 24-27; 8 a.m. to 12 p.m.

Cost: $100

This camp is for students who enjoy quick problem solving and like to work with their hands. This exploratory camp is designed to give students the opportunity to experience many different high-demand skilled trades like carpentry, plumbing, electrical, and welding, all in one location. This is a great opportunity for young adults to try out a skilled trade before having to make the decision on how they will continue their education. The camps will help spark interest in skilled trade jobs to help meet the high demand for trained workers in these areas.

Little Robots (Ages 5 to 8)

June 24-27; 8 a.m. to 12 p.m.

Cost: $100

Students will be involved in interactive, hands-on activities that include creating, designing and constructing eco jewelry, robots and cars. Students will learn how to create and maintain an engineering notebook while learning about the engineering design process. Students will also learn about the robots that surround us in our everyday lives. Students will discover how they interact with robots daily and how they can work to make their own creations.

Bigger Bots (Ages 9 and up)

July 8-11; 8 a.m. to 12 p.m.

Cost: $100

Students will be involved in interactive, hands-on activities that include creating, designing and constructing eco jewelry, robots and cars. Students will learn how to create and maintain an engineering notebook while learning about the engineering design process. Students will also learn about the robots that surround us in our everyday lives. Students will discover how they interact with robots daily and how they can work to make their own creations.

Public Services Exploration Camp (Ages 11 and up)

July 15-18; 8 a.m. to 12 p.m.

Cost: $100

This camp is designed for students who have an interest in becoming a firefighter, police officer, or paramedic. Learn the hands-on skills required in EMS, firefighting, and law enforcement. Topics include an overview of emergency medical services, firefighting and law enforcement from certified instructors in the field. Topics include first aid and CPR, fire extinguisher safety and training, simulated EMS scenarios, and physical training. The camp concludes with an obstacle course, so students can demonstrate the skills they learned.

Engineering Camp (Ages 9 and up)

July 15-18; 8 a.m. to 12 p.m.

Cost: $100

This program is ideal for students who are considering a degree or career in engineering, as well as for those that are curious to learn more. Learn to think like engineers while building critical thinking, communication and collaboration skills. Find out how engineering is applied in the real world, and how it's shaping our future. Students will get to design, create, and produce 3D products like an engineer by making things like rockets, building blocks, bridges, and much more. Additionally, students will have fun tackling a variety of engineering challenges and participate in a daily engineering challenge for added excitement.

Outdoors Adventure Camp (Ages 12 and up)

July 22-24; 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Cost: $160

This camp is a full three days of adventure designed for students who love to be outdoors. Students will learn rock climbing, hiking, and kayaking as well as how to practice "Leave No Trace" principles which keep our land and waters clean. Rock Dimensions will provide a guided half-day of climbing on "real rock" at Holloway Mountain near Boone, NC. Students will learn how to properly wear a harness, tie knots, use verbal commands and focus on climbing technique and safety. Students will also have the opportunity to identify different plants and trees species while on the trail. Emphasis will be "hands-on" learning about fitness, ecology, environmental science, collaboration, communication, and teamwork. Additionally, students will enjoy teambuilding activities and explore Lake Rhodhiss by kayak and hike at nearby Valdese Lakeside Park. The sessions will be taught by certified American Canoe Association L1 Kayaking Instructors/Wilderness First Responders and experienced outdoor recreation professionals.

Basketball and Martial Arts "Combo" Camp (Ages 5-8) (Ages 9 and up)

July 22-25; 8 a.m. to 12 p.m.

Cost: $100

This camp will provide an action-packed week of basketball and martial arts! In this 2-for-1 "combo" camp, students will get to learn basketball skills like proper shooting, dribbling, and passing techniques, rebounding, offense and defensive play, and team-building skills needed for basketball. Plus, students will learn more about the grappling-based form of martial arts from a black-belt instructor with tips on how to defend yourself while building mental and emotional skill sets like confidence, focus, and discipline. Each day, students will be separated into different age/skill groups and participate in each sport for two-hours, then switch to the other sport for the remaining 2-hours. Students will need to wear gym clothes, socks, tennis shoes and bring a water bottle with their name on it.

June 10-13; 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. — William Lenoir Middle School

Students will have 3 full days of all things healthcare. Upon completion of camp, students will be CPR, First Aid and Stop the Bleed certified. They will also spend time touring the health science career areas of CCC&TI and hear from guest speakers. Students will also have an opportunity to practice and learn to use real life healthcare equipment and dissect a heart specimen.

Enhance Well VR Camp (Current 6th — 8th graders)

June 10-13; 8a.m. to 3 p.m. — William Lenoir Middle School

This camp is designed for students to explore how virtual reality can improve our lives. It will introduce students to virtual reality concepts and applications that can improve overall health and well-being, as well as mental health. The camp will also foster creativity and critical thinking in designing personalized virtual reality wellness programs.

Build Your Own Picnic Table (Current 6th-8th graders)

June 17-20; 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. — South Caldwell High School

Students will learn about various careers in construction industry by participating in hands on activities and learning basics of carpentry and construction projects. Students will learn how to safely use hand tools and will build their own picnic table.

Career Compass Camp (Current 6th-8th graders)

June 10-13; 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. — South Caldwell High School

This camp is for students who want to learn more about their own interest and begin planning their career path. Students will learn about Career and Technical Education through hands-on activities. Students will visit real Career and Technical Education (CTE) labs at CCC&TI and learn about different program options for their future career. Students will also get behind-the-scenes access to local businesses and meet professionals who use CTE skills every day.

Gamewell Tech Summer Camp (Current 6th-8th graders)

June 10-13; 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. — Gamewell Middle School

This camp is designed for students who want to explore the world of technology. Students will get a hands-on, immersive experience, will learn new skills and explore cutting-edge technology with fellow technology enthusiasts. Technology exploration will include computer coding, digital electronics technology, MIT App Inventor, drone technology, Oculus Quest Virtual Reality Technology and more.

LEGO Code Camp: Building Minds, Brick by Brick! (Current 6th-8th graders)

June 10-13; 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. — Granite Falls Middle School

LEGO® Code Camp is designed for middle school students who are eager to explore the world of coding through hands-on building block projects. In this camp, students will learn the basics of coding and robotics, as they build and program their own robots using the

latest technology. Through teamwork and creativity, campers will develop problem-solving skills, enhance their critical thinking abilities, and unleash their imagination.

Ready, Set, Cook! A Cooking Class for beginners (Current 6th-11th graders)

June 10-13; 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. — Hibriten High School

This camp is designed for students who want to learn to cook. By following along with instructors, students will learn the basic skills and techniques to prepare delicious breakfast, lunch and dessert favorites. Students will be fully emersed in the cooking process and get hands on experience.

Level Up! VR Careers + Portfolio Power (Current 6th-8th graders)

June 17-20; 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. — South Caldwell High School

In this camp, students will explore diverse career paths and the world of virtual reality!

Students will suit up with virtual reality headsets and explore exciting Career and Technical Education fields through the lens of virtual reality. Students will experience these topics through interactive simulations and activities, gaining a taste of real-world work experiences by way of virtual technologies.

Become a Certified Babysitter to Earn Cash! (Rising 8th-11th graders)

June 17-20; 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. — West Caldwell High School

This camp is designed for students who want to become a certified babysitter. Students will become Red Cross babysitting certified with hands-on activities using infant manikins to teach infant and child safety, basic life skills and child care needs.

The Ingredients in Your Kitchen (Current 6th-8th graders)

June 17-20; 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. — West Caldwell High School

This camp will allow students to explore ingredients that make up the food we eat each day, what nutrients they provide and how they help the body grow and repair itself. Students will also experiment with various combinations of ingredients through recipe testing and creation. Topics will include grains and beans, fruits and vegetables, dairy products and proteins.

#TechThisOut! (Rising 7th-8th graders)

June 17-20; 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. — Hibriten High School

This camp is designed for students who want to make their ideas a reality through technology. Students will learn about graphic design, marketing and promotional skills, virtual reality career exploration, 3D printing and graphic design with Canva.

Making Simple Meals (Current 6th-8th graders)

June 24-27; 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Explore the preparation of easy nutritionally complete meals. This camp will allow students to prepare simple healthy meals for themselves and their families with confidence and without making a huge mess.

Unlock Your Creative Potential (Current 9th-11th graders)

June 25-27; 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.

This camp will help students harness the power of Design Thinking where innovation meets hands-on learning. Students will explore real-world applications through visits to localm cutting-edge companies embracing this transformative process. From concept to creation, students will design their own graphics and logos for custom products like hoodies, caps, cups, and more. This camp will help students learn how to create trends instead of just following them.

Global Cuisine & Food Safety (Current 9th-11th graders)

June 24-27; 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Students in this camp will learn to prepare 8-meals from 8 regions around the world— including tacos, pasta, sushi, pizza, desserts and a few breakfast favorites. Through recipe creation and global exploration, students learn about various cultures and cuisines and how to create their own tasty takes on global cuisine, all while adhering to standard food safety guidelines.

And the Beat Goes On...Empowering the Life Power Within You (Current 6th-8th graders)

June 24-27; 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.

This camp will help students learn the basics of CPR in a fun, engaging, and hands on environment. Participants will get to use state of the art equipment that provides real time feedback for students. Students will also learn about basic first aid and will earn a 2-year CPR certification credential.

Adobe Design Basics (Current 9th-11th graders)

August 5-7; 8 a.m. to 12 p.m.

This camp will help students learn the basics of graphic design using Adobe software including Photoshop and Illustrator. Students will be able to create their own designs and use technology to bring them to life on tees, hats, mugs, cups or other fun promotional products.
