CBS Renews 'Survivor,' 'The Amazing Race,' and 'Tough as Nails'

The three series are part of a nine-show renewal announcement from the network.

Fans of CBS reality TV are more full than they've ever been, with an unscripted show on the network on at nearly every point of the year. And the buffet isn't closing any time soon, as the network announced the return of three reality series for its 2023-2024 season, part of their press release of nine shows total.

Survivor is the most veteran among them. The reality stalwart will be definitely returning for a 45th season airing in the fall. Though not explicitly announced, it's also assumed season 46 is a go as well, considering the back-to-back filming schedule the show has been maintaining. The renewal comes a little over a week from the premiere of Survivor 44 on March 1, which filmed back in June 2022. Season 45 has yet to film, but given the typical schedule, will most likely shoot in the spring.

The Amazing Race was officially renewed for a 35th season. The interesting situation is, unlike Survivor, the Emmy-winning series had already filmed season 35, even before the announcement. Eagle-eyed viewers tracked the season shooting over the fall, as the teams traveled through mostly the Caribbean and South America. This is a departure from the seasons filmed in the "COVID era," which largely took place in Europe.

The final reality show to get renewed is also its most babyfaced: Tough as Nails. The show from the mind of Amazing Race host Phil Keoghan announced it would be returning for a fifth season. If that news sounds familiar, it's because Tough as Nails was technically renewed for season five back in March 2022. However, this announcement officially confirms the show will be coming back in the next year. The news comes a day before the season 4 finale, which airs on February 22.

The Survivor, Amazing Race, and Tough as Nails renewals come alongside announcements for new seasons of dramas 60 Minutes, NCIS, CSI: Vegas, game show Lingo, and the true crime docuseries 48 Hours. In addition, The Never Game, a new drama starring Justin Hartley (This is Us), received an early series order for the 2023-2024 season.
