Cazzie David’s Got a Comedy Pilot Coming to Amazon

Cazzie David, who has a famous dad and a famous ex, is taking the spotlight herself with a new pilot on Amazon, Half-Empty.

Cazzie David’s new comedy Half-Empty just got a pilot order from Amazon Prime Video—meaning that audiences might soon know David from her own work (which is very good), rather than from her famous father (Larry David) and famous ex (Pete Davidson). David will star in as well as co–executive produce and cowrite the show, which “follows a sardonic college student whose overactive imagination leads to catastrophic thinking and an endless chain of social disasters.”

David previously wrote and starred in the YouTube comedy Eighty-Sixed, and will offer her ironically disaffected and funny life advice (as seen in her articles for Vogue as well as an installment of our series Sad Hot Girls) in a forthcoming book, No One Asked for This. Of course, David got pulled into the celebrity gossip mill last year when Davidson made headlines with his quickie relationship, then engagement, then non-engagement to Ariana Grande. While fans were hyperbolically worried about David’s well-being during the heavily publicized rebound, David seems to be doing more than fine—at the time the news of Davidson and Grande first broke, she posted a photo on Instagram with the caption, “Been in Africa, what’d I miss ??” Recently she was hanging out with a crew that included Selena Gomez, Taylor Swift, and Este Haim; maybe one of her new pals will end up on the show?

Of the new project, which Girls alumna Sarah Heyward will also executive produce and oversee as showrunner, David said, “It’s been a delightful collaboration. Although I have nothing to base that on, having never collaborated.” Can’t wait.
