Cats Who Were Put Outside After Owner's House Went Up for Sale Are Breaking People's Hearts

The heartbreaking story of how two sweet kitties ended up strays is making people furious on the internet. Little Bobby and Penny were abandoned by their owners when they had to leave their home unexpectedly. And were only discovered around the property when the house went up for sale. Thankfully, someone who went to the open house had a heart and took the animals in. But that hasn't stopped commenters from lashing out against the people who put them there in the first place.

It's hard to believe that anyone would do this, but sometimes circumstances can force people to make the wrong call.

As the video explained, the two cats were on the porch begging for food from visitors at the open house. The real estate agent tried to claim they were two strays that the old owners used to feed. But that was far from the truth.

"Turns out they were the owner's cat that were put outside when the house went up for sale," the TikTok creator @nala_meets_world explained in the onscreen caption.

It was a neighbor who filled the creator in on the real story. As the neighbor explained, the old owner of the house had an accident last May and hadn't been in the house since. Someone would check on the cats and feed them, but for the most part they were all alone. When the house finally went up for sale the cats were turned out permanently. Thankfully, @nala_meets_world came along and brought both to an animal rescue, where they are both currently waiting for their fur-ever homes.

How to Help Stray Cats

If you come upon a stray, what should you do? Well here are some helpful tips on how to handle stray cats. First things first, if you've determined that the cat is healthy, it's probably best to leave them alone. The cat might be an outside cat or might live in the neighborhood. In the clip from TikTok, the content creator asked around and discovered the cat's backstory before taking them in.

If you see strays, or "community cats," in trouble, you might want to reach out to your local organization that can help you with a process called trap-neuter-return (TNR). TNR requires a bit of training. So if you don't feel comfortable doing it yourself, you reach out to a local TNR organization that will help you.

Overall, it's important to remember that strays aren't always neglected. But if you are growing concerned about a stray, asking your local animal rescue or shelter for help is probably your best plan of action.
