Cats' Curiosity Over Meeting a Puppy for the First Time Is Total Cuteness Overload

What's better, cats or dogs? It's an age-old question that people will probably never get to the bottom of. What we do know is that things got a little chaotic when one cat mom decided to introduce a brand new Maltipoo puppy into her household. And her three longhaired cats were besides themselves by the new addition.

The woman usually shares videos of her three cats on her TikTok page. So naturally she had to document the day he brought her new puppy home.

To say that the cats were flummoxed is an understatement. The video shows the cat mom, who posts under @turbo_piuma_pila online, bending down with the pup in her arms to let her cats acclimate to the new arrival. They were shook! The cats took their sweet time sniffing the Maltipoo, which had to smell completely new and strange.

In another part of the video, it shows the Maltipoo padding around the house and even trying to play with its cat siblings. Let' just say the cats were a little unprepared for all of that puppy energy.

"My cats seeing a dog for the first time," their mama wrote in the video's onscreen caption.

A second video on the page shows the cats hesitantly trying to investigate their new sister.

People in the comments section were cracking up. "I love how the cats are simultaneously intrigued and appalled," joked one user. "The cats are like 'Why the hell is it so happy ALL the time?!'" a second commenter joked. "Not the cats all looking like 'what the h—l kinda cat is dis?'" a third person teased.

How to Introduce Cats and Puppies

Believe it or not, there is a right way to introduce your puppy to your cats — and a wrong way. But let's focus on the positive. First things first, it's very important that you take things slowly. Cats and dogs have very different rhythms and you don't want to force things to go too fast.

Then, make sure your cat has a dog-free spot in the house to retreat to. Dogs — especially puppies — have lots of energy, which might be overwhelming to your cat. Make sure they have a place where they can take a break.

Keep your pets separated at first and then try and feed them on opposite sides of the same door so that they'll associate positive things with being near each other.

Make sure your dog knows some basic commands like "sit" or "stay" and then conduct your first meet and greet in a common area of the house — not in your animal's sanctuary area. Keep things short of sweet and keep your dog on its leash. Repeat the process and eventually all of your animals will get along perfectly — or should we say, purr-fectly.
