Catherine Zeta-Jones just told Good Housekeeping UK that she hasn’t gone “under the knife” yet — a vague statement that doesn’t mean much these days, considering the advanced state of laser and injection treatments. “I’m not anti-plastic surgery at all,” the 46-year-old Welsh actress told the publication in the March 2016 cover story. “Contrary to public opinion, I have not been under the knife … yet, is what I say! If I feel like it, I’m going to go ahead and do it! If [surgery] makes you feel better, who am I to tell someone that it’s wrong?”

Over the years, the Academy Award-winning actress, who is promoting a new British comedic film, Dad’s Army, has been reported to have gotten procedures like a nose job, Botox injections, and breast augmentation, but she is denying the rumor that she’s gotten any invasive treatments. By saying that she hasn’t gone under the knife, it’s a way of sidestepping what she has actually done. Many celebrities in an industry that privileges youth, do some form of cosmetic treatment. 77-year-old actress Jane Fonda, who stars in the Netflix series Grace and Frankie has the opposite approach, owning up to it all. She told The Guardian in May 2015, “I wish I were brave enough to not do plastic surgery but I think I bought myself a decade.”

“You don’t have to be a beauty queen to be an actress,” Zeta-Jones added in the recent interview. “The roles that are coming my way are different and more interesting.” You don’t have to be a beauty queen — but it seems like youthful skin always helps.
