Catherine Zeta-Jones Is Almost Unrecognizable With Blonde Bob for New Project

If you haven’t heard, after 15 years, the National Treasure franchise is returning to the spotlight—this time in the form of a Disney+ series instead of a movie, and starring Catherine Zeta-Jones instead of Nicholas Cage. Yes, you read that right. But you may not recognize the Entrapment star when you watch the show’s teaser, because her character rocks a platinum blonde bob—a far step away from her usual brunette locks.

The 52-year-old plays Billie Pearce, who appears to be the story’s villain—or at least one of them—from what we know of the show so far. The series, called National Treasure: Edge of History, stars Lisette Olivera as Jess Morales who finds herself on a treasure hunt while studying for her citizenship exam, and Pearce seems to seek sabotage on Morales’ mission.

“She’s a black market antique dealer, and she plays a cat and mouse game with Jess, and the audience,” Zeta-Jones she said in a video recently presented at San Diego ComicCon. “They’re figuring it out as we’re figuring it out.”

The star added that she’s thrilled to be a part of this reprise project. “I was a huge fan of the National Treasure movies,” she said.

There’s not much more info on the series out just yet—Disney+ claims it’ll be streaming “soon,” which is when we’ll get a better look at Zeta-Jones’ new ’do (which is presumably a wig, given that her Instagram selfies still show off her brown tresses).

Blonde has never been a go-to style for the actress, but she did rock a sandy golden hue in her 2003 film Intolerable Cruelty. In September 2021, she shared a photo from the movie, in which her character Marylin sported a sparkly, gilded gown and smug expression. “The look you make when your boss schedules a 6 p.m. call on a Friday… 😂,” she captioned the post. “Hope you all have a great weekend!!”

Blonde or brunette (or any color in between), Zeta-Jones is always glowing. And we can’t wait to see her on-screen again.
