Cat Returned to Shelter After 24 Hours So New Owners Could 'Swap Her' for a Kitten

This poor girl got cheated out of her forever home.

We can't imagine the frustration, disappointment, and heartbreak the shelter staff at @aaps_victoria must've felt when they saw a familiar face returning to the rescue. PJ the calico cat had just been adopted by her so-called forever family less than 24 hours before!

The gentle kitty had been searching for almost 100 days to find her "purr-fect" match, and she was cheated out of Happily Ever After just as quickly as she had found it. To add insult to injury--the family asked to adopt a kitten instead!

PJ seems like the sweetest girl! She may not be tiny and rambunctious the way a kitten would be, but if her "family" had given her time, they would've had the best cat. Besides, she's only 2 years old!

"I promise you, having an anxious cat love you unconditionally is the most rewarding thing I’ve ever experienced," agreed commenter @saphiistitches. We can imagine so! Unfortunately, we suppose not everyone is up for the task. That's why it's so important to educate yourself about an animal's needs before deciding to adopt a pet. After all, a pet is a lifetime commitment!

We know that PJ will find a home with someone who adores her exactly how she is--age, anxiety, and all--but for now, she's waiting at the Australian Animal Protection Society in Melbourne.

In her online bio, PJ's rescuers describe her as a "very intelligent" cat. She enjoys all kinds of enrichment activities for mental stimulation but prefers to be in a home without kids or other pets. Believe it or not, though, she can even be a "sassy pants" once she warms up to her surroundings!

If you think. you might be the perfect fit for this well-rounded calico cat, it just might be time to start the application process.
