Cat Marvels at Human’s Long Hair During Hilarious Grooming Video

It's not always easy to tell if your cat loves you. In fact, it would probably be easier to tell if your cat hates you or is simply indifferent to your presence. If you have won your cat over, there will definitely be signs of their affection. Like there was for one cat owner, who really confused her kitty when the cat tried to groom her.

Laura Stern and her Croatian cat Zuco were chilling on the couch when the kitty wanted to show its mama some love.

At first the cat was merely licking its mama's forehead. You know, grooming her and making sure she was clean. Then Zuco licked his mom's hair by accident. And well — it was very different than when he grooms himself. The hair just kept going and going. In fact, Zuco couldn't get through it all and at one point the hair got stuck in his mouth. The struggle was real for Zuco.

People online couldn't stop making jokes. "He’s like GAH DAMN WHY'S UR FUR SO LONG," joked one commenter. "He really hit slow mo," someone else teased. "Dyson Catwrap," another person kidded, referring to the viral Dyson Airwrap hair styler. "Orange cat behavior," one person chimed in.

Why Cats Lick Their Humans

One would think that cats can tell that their humans aren't, well cats, and that we don't necessarily need to be groomed. There are lots of reasons why cats lick their humans — but cleanliness isn't really a huge factor.

Cats show their affection through licking. Mother cats lick their young, and those kittens grow up to be cats who will lick their humans to let them know they are loved. It's a major way that cats bond with each other and communicates a cat's fondness for you and its sense of belonging.

Grooming can also mark you with a cat's scent (even if you can't smell it yourself). By spreading its scent on you, it's essentially marking you as part of their family. Licking your face or hair is one way that they spread that mark.

There are some not good reasons why a cat might lick humans too. First, you might be wearing a lotion or have used a body wash that has an enticing scent to them. If you're not freshly bathed, they may like the taste of your salty skin. Yuck!

Cats who lick may have been weaned too young or orphaned. They may use licking as a coping mechanism when their stressed, anxious, or not feeling well too. Your cat is probably looking for a little attention in that case, so you might want to calm them down or give them a little loving.

As for Zuco, we sort of think he was marking his territory. But he just got way more of a mouthful than he asked for.
