Castlevania Nocturne Richter trailer still

Netflix’s original animated Castlevania series was so good and so well-received that it spanned for four entire seasons, with fans coming back for more at every chance they got. Now, it’s got a sequel series in Castlevania: Nocturne, and it looks like it’ll be following in its predecessor’s footsteps.

According to a report from Variety, just one week after its debut Castlevania: Nocturne has been renewed for a second season. Variety says that showrunners Clive Bradley and Kevin Kolde confirmed the news, with Netflix subsequently confirming it via a post on Twitter.

“Thanks to all of the ‘Castlevania’ fans old and new for the amazing response and support!” Bradley and Kolde reportedly said, “We are excited to be able to bring you more ‘Castlevania: Nocturne’ and the next chapter in the rise of Richter Belmont.”

Castlevania: Nocturne is a followup to the incredibly popular Castlevania animated series, taking place a few hundred years after that series during the French Revolution. The series is focused on Richter Belmont, the latest in a long line of vampire hunters, and his companions Maria Renard and Annette, as they battle against the mysterious and powerful Vampire Messiah.

The new series is loosely based on the fan favorite game Castlevania: Symphony of the Night, as well as its predecessor Rondo of Blood. While it definitely doesn’t follow those games directly, there are some nice little nods and inspirations on display, and it’s a lot of fun to watch as a Castlevania megafan or as a newcomer.

So far, no release date has been announced for Castlevania: Nocturne’s second season, though we can probably look to its predecessor series to get a better idea of what to expect. Each episode of the original series released on roughly 12-18-month intervals, so we can probably expect season 2 of Castlevania: Nocturne to be released in late 2024 or in the first half of 2025. That’s a fair time to wait, but you can’t rush greatness.
