‘Castle’s Susan Sullivan Shares Health Update With New Hospital Photo

Susan Sullivan

Despite a recent medical emergency, Susan Sullivan is holding on to her "humor and hope."

The Castle alum recently revealed that she's spending some time in the hospital for what was first an unspecified illness or injury, though a photo shared on Twitter offered some clues.

The 80-year-old took to the social media platform on Oct. 16 to let her fans know that, despite the "surprising little turn," she's pushing on.

"Life‘s surprising little turns try to be ready for them with humor and hope," she wrote alongside a snap of herself in a hospital gown and slipper socks. "On we go."

She wore a yellow surgical mask as she stood at the foot of her bed, holding onto an oxygen rack with one hand and an IV pole with the other. The actress didn't appear to be wearing any oxygen tubing, rather holding onto it for stability, but looked to have at least two IV bags connected through a pump to the catheter placed in her right forearm.

She also appeared to have a chest tube inserted, which helps drain air or fluids from the space between a person's lungs and chest wall to allow the lungs to properly inflate, according to the American Lung Association. Anything from an infection like pneumonia to a traumatic injury can necessitate the insertion of a chest tube.

Sullivan didn't elaborate on her diagnosis in the initial post but later revealed on Oct. 17 that she was recovering following a successful surgery to treat lung cancer. "The healing process is a struggle," she said, going on to express her gratitude to those following along and sending her their well wishes.

We're glad to see she's in good spirits despite the cancer scare and we're sending her all the best vibes for a speedy recovery!
