By now, you should know that we can't help but sink our teeth into a good Western TV show or a series with romantic storyline! Lucky for us, there's a new Netflix series on the horizon that encapsulates a bit of both of those features. If you haven't heard by now, Ransom Canyon is an upcoming project that's being compared to the likes of Yellowstone and Virgin River (two shows that we absolutely obsess over), and we're already counting the days 'til we get to watch it. In the meantime, Netflix has provided us with the cast—and oh, is it good!
The primary leads are Josh Duhamel and Minka Kelly, two actors who have both proven their acting chops throughout the years. The entire cast is made up of seasoned actors (James Brolin has officially signed on!) as well as some newbies—all of which are extremely talented. They'll help tell the story of three different ranch families in Texas Hill Country, the prime focus being the town of Ransom Canyon. There will be lots of romance, Western-disputes, and a whole lot of that TV show-drama we all can't help but love.
Read on and get to know the stars of Ransom Canyon! We've included their character descriptions and a brief overview of where you may have seen the actors before.
Josh Duhamel as Staten Kirkland
Josh plays Staten Kirkland, the head honcho at Double K Ranch. There's no measure he wouldn't take to protect every inch of his beloved Texas property. He's a tough, rugged man with a soft spot when it comes to romance.
Josh is no stranger to being in front of a camera. There's a good chance you've swooned over him in his hit romantic film, Safe Haven. He's most recently starred in Shotgun Wedding, Bandit, and The Lost Husband.
Minka Kelly as Quinn O'Grady
Minka will embody the role of Quinn O'Grady, a small-town girl at her core, who returned to her home in Texas Hill Country after exploring the wonder that is New York City. She's a musical wizard on the piano, but is also a little reserved when you first meet her. Still, her infectious personality could win anyone over.
Playing Lyla Garrity in Friday Night Lights is Minka's most notable role, but you might have also caught her in the 2011 horror movie, The Roommate as well as hit HBO series, Euphoria.
James Brolin as Cap Fuller
Cap Fuller is not to be messed with. He's the owner of Fuller Ranch and a former Army captain. He has a pretty cold way of going about things, but he usually means well. If he seems distant, it's because he's suffering from grief after losing his son in Afghanistan. Like Staten, there's no way he's going to sell his ranch—no matter how bad things seem to get!
If you think James' last name sounds familiar, it's because he's the father to movie star, Josh Brolin! James is still a seasoned actor in his own right. Some of his works include Marcus Welby, M.D., The Amityville Horror, and Being Rose.
Lizzy Greene as Lauren Brigman
Unlike most of the other characters, Lauren Brigman doesn't like the small-town life too much, no matter how bad her father tries to get her to! Don't get it confused, she loves her high school cheerleading team and her quarterback of a boyfriend—but there's no way she's staying here just for them.
Lizzy may only be 20-years-old, but she's already got an impressive acting resume! Her projects mainly include TV shows, like Nicky, Ricky, Dicky & Dawn, The Thundermans, and A Million Little Things.
Eoin Macken as Davis Collins
Davis Collins is another ranch owner, his property being Bar W Ranch. As one of the biggest landowners in the Ransom Canyon area, Davis and his family have long been at odds with Staten and the rest of the Kirklands. The two men share opposite opinions on pretty much everything, and it doesn't help that they both fall for Quinn when she arrives back in town.
Eoin is an Irish actor, and you can watch him play a diverse array of roles! Watch him in drama-series, The Night Shift or movies like Till Death and The Forest.
Marianly Tejada as Ellie Estevez
Ellie won't go out of her way to be mean to you, but if you cross her the wrong way, there's no telling what she'll say (or do). This is the kind of personality you need in order to look after someone like Cap, anyway. With that being said, Ellie isn't exactly seem like your romantic type... but that doesn't mean she can't grow a crush on someone! (We're looking at you, Yancy.)
Marianly's portfolio includes One of Us Is Lying and Once Upon a Fish. We can't wait to see where Ransom Canyon takes her!
Jack Schumacher as Yancy Grey
Yancy is another newbie in town, but he's not really interested in making friends. In fact, Yancy is pretty secretive about... everything! No one knows what his past entails, and when he finally begins to form friendships with Ellie and Cap, they begin to ask questions. Let's just hope that whatever he's hiding isn't bad enough to push his new pals away!
Jack has appeared in some cool stuff! Look for him in Top Gun: Maverick, S.W.A.T. and Chicago P.D.
Garrett Wareing as Lucas Russell
Lucas is a chill guy who will provide for his family no matter what. However, working at the Double K Ranch isn't cutting it for him. He dreams of the day he can leave Ransom Canyon and everything it entails behind. A string of fate brings him and Lauren together. Seeing as the two share common interests, they form an immediate bond. Both Lauren's boyfriend and her father disapprove of this friendship for various reasons.
Garrett is a young actor (only 22!), and can be seen in Boychoir, Perfect, and Manifest.
Andrew Liner as Reid Collins
It's easy to dislike Reid from the start: He's a star quarterback with a cheerleader girlfriend (hi, Lauren), and an arrogant attitude. He also seemingly has everything made out for him as the next in line to takeover the Collins family ranch. Still, Reid is just a 16-year-old boy who also seeks love and affection, and has a good heart deep down. But there's something about Reid that no one knows, and it may cause him to go a bit haywire.
Andrew has been in shows like Vampire Academy and Grown-ish, and has recently acted in the movie Gray Matter.
Brett Cullen as Senator Samuel Kirkland
Senator Kirkland (who mainly goes by Sam) has a very interesting personality. He's got the wits to be a successful politician, and also the charm to constantly pull in a new love interest. He's also Staten's father, and the two share a peculiar relationship with each other. Sam's newest political goal is to get a pipeline going through Ransom Canyon, much to Staten's dismay.
Brett has many movies and TV shows under his belt, including The Replacements, Prehysteria!, and Legacy.
Kate Burton as Katherine Bullock
Katherine is a sweet lady with *so* much knowledge about the music industry. She's also Quinn's music mentor back in NYC. That said, Katherine was thrown off when Quinn decided to move back to Ransom Canyon, so she is constantly trying to find ways to bring her back to the Big Apple.
Kate's talent has landed her a long list of roles! She has appeared in Grey's Anatomy, Inventing Anna, and Scandal—but that is only scraping the surface of her amazing career!
Kenneth Miller as Freddie
Freddie is bad, bad news. He's been to prison for committing some illegal schemes, and he's showing no sign of wanting to change his ways. Things with him start to get tricky when we find out he knows a thing or two about Yancy's dark past. Is that why he followed him over to Ransom Canyon?
Kenneth is in the 2024 film, Red Right Hand, and can also be found in 12 Strong, Only the Brave, and Silk Road.
Niko Guardado as Tim O’Grady
Tim is a high school football player with some serious skill. He's good at what he does, but is often overlooked by his best-pal, Reid. Together, the two friends are inseparable. That tends to happen, though, when you both share some skeletons in the same closet. He's the nephew to Quinn, who he grows a close relationship with.
Niko is slowly but surely building his acting legacy, with roles in Party of Five, Lost in the West, and Almost Home.
Justin Johnson Cortez as Kai
Kai is one of the members of the Ransom Canyon Police Force, and he's looking to be taken seriously at his job. That means he'll take any task, no matter how minuscule it may seem. He immediately grows suspicious of Yancy (he tends to have an eye for these things), and consistently warns Ellie to stay away.
You might recognize Justin from the Western-series, Walker: Independence. He was also in 9-1-1: Lone Star and Flight 192.
Casey W. Johnson as Kit Russell
Kit is the older brother to Lucas—but he takes on more of a father-figure role. He tries his best (he really does), but he can't seem to figure out how to stay out of trouble. Throughout the series, you'll watch as Kit learns some serious lessons, even if it means he has to do so the hard way.
You can watch Casey in his other projects, including his Apple TV+ series, For All Mankind. Some of his other movies and shows are GLOW and Killer Assistant.
Philip Winchester as Sheriff Dan Brigman
Sheriff Brigman (also known as Dan) is determined to keep Ransom Canyon safe. He's also the father to Lauren, whom he only wants the best for, which is why he's also setting some strict rules for her. He does *not* like Lucas, and is probably against their new friendship more than Reid is! Dan is pretty smart though, which is why he's hired for the most grueling and mysterious cases, including one that has haunted the town for some time now.
Philip is good at what he does, which is probably why he has landed roles in The Patriot, Thunderbirds, CSI: Miami, and Shaking Dream Land.
