Casey Cott Joked About Archie Dying in "Riverdale" Season 3

Don't joke!!!

The season three premiere of Riverdale is just around the corner, dropping on October 10, and some of its stars are stoking the flames of anticipation with some interesting clues about what’s to come for their characters this season. And while Archie's fate hangs most in the balance (he might go to prison, after all), Casey Cott is doing nothing to assuage our fears for how Archie will turn out.

KJ Apa, Casey Cott, and Riverdale’s dads Skeet Ulrich and Luke Perry spoke to ET Online recently about the third season, and it looks like fans are going to have to prepare for big thrills. (KJ and the guys even described it as “deep, dark, and dangerous.”)

“They're going to absolutely just freak out, man," KJ told ET Online. "It's going to be gnarly."

As Riverdale fans well remember, we left Archie and his pals in the middle of a crisis — surprise surprise. Archie had been framed by his girlfriend’s father and arrested for murder, Veronica had the shocking realization that her father was a bad, bad guy, there were two murderous Black Hoods, and Jughead almost died.

According to ET Online, Archie will return to high school, so we know he doesn’t spend too much time behind bars (if any), but that doesn’t mean there aren’t more surprises in store.

“Archie's in court and we're going to see if he goes to jail," KJ hinted. "But I can't tell you if he goes or not." Then, Casey couldn’t resist throwing in some intrigue of his own. "...and then he dies!" We have a feeling the main character of Riverdale won’t be dying this season, since it is called the “Archie universe” for a reason. But honestly, you never know with this show.

Casey and KJ also revealed that they’ve got some fun scenes together in season three. What’s next for Archie and Kevin? “KJ and I actually have some cool stuff together, which has been really fun,” Casey said. “Really difficult to shoot a serious scene with.” Apparently, the laughs just keep coming between them, which makes sense. "[They’re] the most impossible scenes to shoot, because we can't stop laughing," KJ added.

We still have lots of questions about what to expect when the series premieres in just a couple short weeks — but knowing what we know about the little town with pep, it’s not going to be boring. Riverdale returns on October 10, so the countdown is on.
