Carthage couple offering free saplings to residents to inspire native tree repopulation

CARTHAGE, Mo. — With countless trees lost to a recent tornado, a Carthage couple is stepping up to help rebuild the local canopy.

Eli and Vanessa Bruton are offering free trees to Carthage residents. They’ve bought 3,000 native saplings, including maples, oaks, dogwoods, and sumac. They hope the project will help repopulate yards, especially since the city is known as the “Maple Leaf City.”

“People are very consumed right now with the cleanup portion of it, and they might not be thinking towards the future. So we wanted to help put that at ease for them and help offer that so they didn’t have to be seeking it out,” said Vanessa Bruton.

“We love to see it. We love to see the community get involved and restore us back to where we were prior to the storms,” said Jen Kirby, Carthage Tourism Dir.

The Brutons are running the tree giveaway through their business, Liberty Tree Guns. Those interested can sign up in person or through their website, here.
