Carson Daly Had the Shadiest Reaction When Katie Kadan Didn't Win 'The Voice'

From Country Living

Every time The Voice crowns a new champion, fans freak out over the results. Usually, host Carson Daly and the coaches contain their emotions in front of the cameras—but that wasn't the case during the season 17 finale.

In case you missed it, Jake Hoot beat out the competition's early frontrunners Katie Kadan, Rose Short, and Ricky Duran for the grand prize. Before Carson announced that Jake won, he revealed the placement of the other three finalists and that's when the real drama happened.

We'll start with the singer's coach, John Legend. When Carson announced Katie's name, the look on John's face was one of pure 👏 shock. 👏 If his shady expression didn't make it clear that he wasn't expecting her to lose, the first words out of his mouth definitely gave it away.

"Oh man," John said as he rose from his chair.

Even Katie's competition couldn't believe that they actually beat her.

"What just happened?!" Ricky whispered into her ear as they hugged. Katie—who was probably thinking the same thing, to be honest—handled the moment with grace.

"No! It's good," she assured him. "It's good, it's good."

All of these subtle exchanges were easy to miss amid all the cheering and quick camerawork—but then the man with the mic spoke up and said what everyone was thinking.

"Some are surprised by that outcome," Carson announced before the commercial break. "We'll see how it all shakes out."

Yup, he really went there.

If you're just as upset by The Voice results as Carson and John apparently are, we have good news: You can listen to Katie's album on repeat on Spotify, Amazon, and Apple Music.
