Carrie Underwood Appears in "The Champion" Music Video Following Her Facial Injury

She looks great.

After Carrie Underwood suffered a severe injury to her face that resulted in 40 stitches, the singer has mostly stayed out of the spotlight during her recovery. But even though we haven't seen much of the former American Idol contestant (save for a few seemingly carefully positioned selfies) since the ordeal, that doesn't mean that she's stopped making music. In fact, Underwood just released a music video for her song "The Champion" with Ludacris, and it's seriously inspiring.

Not only will the lyrics — like "I am invincible, unbreakable / Unstoppable, unshakeable / They knock me down, I get up again / I am the champion" — get you pumped up, but the visuals might also make you tear up. The video features a montage of sports champions, including Muhammed Ali, professional surfer Bethany Hamilton, and competitors in the Special Olympics. There are also powerful clips of little girls in ballet class, people tearing down the Berlin Wall, and clips from the 2017 Women's March.

Underwood appears in the video, too, but is mostly shown in the studio with the microphone covering the majority of her face. There are a few moments, however, where her face is more revealed, along with some shots of her running or working out, but any differences in her looks isn't immediately evident. Also included are old videos of the singer's time on American Idol and from the beginning of her career.

It's unclear exactly when the video was shot, but Underwood is obviously taking the spirit of the song to heart. "It's crazy how a freak random accident can change your life," she wrote in a letter to her fan club in January, right after her injury.
