Carrie Underwood Received a Standing Ovation at the Country Music Awards
Sunday night’s 53rd annual Country Music Awards was a gathering of celebrities from Nashville and beyond. Country legend Reba McEntire hosted the event in Las Vegas, which brought together stars from Kelly Clarkson and Carrie Underwood to Nicole Kidman and Ashton Kutcher.
Kidman, who attended with husband Keith Urban, wore a long-sleeved gold gown while Gwen Stefani, who joined her boyfriend, Blake Shelton, wore a short red dress by David Koma with thigh-high boots. Kidman, Stefani, and Kutcher (who walked the carpet with actor Sam Elliott) weren’t the only non-country-music figures at the event. Rapper Eve and Olympic skier Lindsey Vonn also made appearances, and Eve was just as surprised to be there as the world was to see her.
“Honestly never thought I would be at the #acmawards BUT had THE best time tonight!!” she wrote on her Instagram after the show.
Arguably the biggest star of the night was Carrie Underwood, who made her first official public appearance in five months, after she fell down steps at her home and had “between 40-50 stitches” in her face in November. In January, she wrote on Instagram that she “might look a bit different” when she finally made her return to the public.
On Saturday, Underwood posted a close-up selfie to her Instagram in anticipation of her performance She sang her new single, “Cry Pretty,” to a supportive audience, which gave her a standing ovation.
