Carrie Underwood and Kelly Clarkson shut down a Twitter poll that pitted them against each other, and we're loving it

When it comes to life, it’s easy to fall into the same old routines. We’ve spent years choosing one thing over another — Pepsi versus Coke, coffee versus tea, vanilla versus chocolate — but we’ve always felt forced into picking a favorite. Why can’t we love (and have) both? So, when American Idol alums Carrie Underwood and Kelly Clarkson took to Twitter to remind us that life isn’t a competition, we couldn’t be more thrilled.

After a Twitter poll from an online publication asked people to vote for the “most iconic American Idol winner,” these powerful ladies shut it down in the best way. Clarkson saw the ridiculous question first, and her reaction was totally inspired.

“I think we’re both winning in life and pretty blessed! Singers, mamas, CEO’s … #AmbitiousBlondes go ahead @carrieunderwood,” Clarkson tweeted.

Underwood responded less than 15 minutes later, because obviously, badass women have to stick together.

“Whatever, girl, I voted for you!” Underwood wrote. “But seriously, I do wish more publications would just celebrate women’s success without pitting them against each other … Just my thoughts … anyway … Love ya’! Hope you’re well!”

We couldn’t agree more. The whole concept that women need to be in constant competition with each other (and with men!) is totally messed up. There’s no rule that says *both* American Idol winners can’t be iconic and celebrated, and we’re proud of them for clapping back the way they did.

Real queens *absolutely* fix each other’s crowns, and Carrie Underwood and Kelly Clarkson are a perfect example.

It looks like many fans agreed with the powerhouse singers about the importance of women supporting women.

While there’s nothing wrong with being competitive, it’s important to remember that competition doesn’t mean it’s okay to put other people down. Even if you don’t agree with someone, there’s no reason why we can’t be respectful and supportive of one another.

Seriously though, a rising tide really does lift all boats. We’re so proud of Carrie Underwood and Kelly Clarkson for being fantastic role models. Thanks for inspiring us, ladies!
