Carrie Underwood Is Getting Mom-Shamed for Wearing Makeup to Her Son's Soccer Game

Contrary to what social media trolls would have you believe, there's no right or wrong time or place to wear makeup. Whether you're bare-faced at the Grammys or in a full contour for your waitress shift, makeup is a personal choice. Now, someone please tell that to Carrie Underwood's Instagram followers.

Over the weekend, Underwood posted a cute selfie on the sidelines at her son's soccer game. She managed to be a supportive mom and plug her own activewear line all at once, like the pro she is. "Officially a soccer mom this morning!" she captioned the photo. "It's chilly out but I'm staying warm rocking some @caliabycarrie ...the kids played a good game! Isaiah scored two goals for his team...and one for the other team. Hey, a goal's a goal!"

Underwood's positive attitude seems like a great way to encourage her son. Unfortunately, some commenters chose instead to concentrate on her appearance, and specifically the fact that she appears to have her brows filled in and her lashes on, and is wearing blush and lipstick. Many of those commenters couldn't seem to compute the combination of makeup and good parenting — which, by the way, are not mutually exclusive. Moms contain multitudes, people!

"Well that is a crap ton of makeup for a soccer game," one commenter wrote. "Show up like most soccer moms, messy hair don't care, no makeup and a coffee mug in hand," another piled on. Others stated their opposition to how darkly she'd filled in her brows, and one even had the audacity to criticize the cosmetic procedures they're assuming Underwood has gotten: "I love Carrie. But it looks like she's starting the injections and face changing tweaks way too soon. She's looking a little plastic these days." That doesn't sound like love.

Other commenters focused on the fact that this was a photo of Underwood and not her son, though it's entirely likely that she'd like to keep little Isaiah's likeness private — not to mention those of the other children he was playing with, whose parents may not want them to appear on a celebrity's Instagram feed.

The comment section did have a bit of a silver lining, though. Many others stepped up to defend Underwood and her son's right to privacy and, just as important, her right to wear makeup. "Ignore the negative comments. Enjoy watching your son play soccer. That's what is important," commented one fan. Agreed. Equally important? A strong brow game. Luckily, Underwood's got it all on lock.
