Dolly Parton and Garth Brooks are gearing up to present at the Academy of Country Music Awards in May. But they won’t be announcing a Female Artist of the Year nomination for Carrie Underwood — and folks aren’t staying silent about it.

The ACM Awards kicked off Thursday morning by revealing nods for country music’s biggest stars. Among the first categories announced was Female Artist of the Year, which included shoutouts for Kelsea Ballerini, Miranda Lambert, Lainey Wilson, Carly Pearce and Ashley McBryde. According to the official ACM Awards website, nominees for this award are considered based on several factors, but not limited to “success at radio, consumption, success in digital media, live concert ticket sales and vocal performances.” Without missing a beat, fans immediately started causing a commotion on Instagram when they noticed that Carrie wasn’t mentioned.

“No Carrie for female??? what on earth???” one person wrote in the ACM Awards’ Instagram comments section. “You didn’t nominate Carrie for female vocalist?! WTH even is country music right now,” another added. “No @carrieunderwood for female artist of the year?? Are you kidding?!” a different follower chimed in.

That said, although the American Idol alum didn’t earn a nod for Female Artist of the Year, she is in the running for the coveted Entertainer of the Year award. Carrie is up against Miranda, Chris Stapleton, Kane Brown, Jason Aldean, Luke Combs and Morgan Wallen. After seeing this exciting recognition for Carrie, fans still couldn’t help but feel a little disappointed.

“I'm glad you guys nominated Carrie for entertainer of the year but she needs to be in the female category too 😢,” someone commented. “Carrie for EOTY 🔥 but bummed she’s not nominated for Female Artist,” another shared.

As longtime listeners may know, the “Before He Cheats” singer has been nominated for Female Artist of the Year 15 years in a row since 2006. But this streak ended without an explanation in 2021, and the latest news marks her third year not being considered for it. On other hand, her Entertainer of the Year nomination is the sixth one in her career. She has taken home Female Artist of the Year five times and Entertainer of the Year three times, ending in a tie with Thomas Rhett back in 2020.

In case you’re wondering, the ACM Awards’ criteria for Entertainer of the Year is a bit different from Female Artist of the Year, with factors including “radio, consumption, success of music videos, vocal performances, live concert ticket sales, artistic merit, appearances on television, appearances in films, songwriting, success in digital media, and contributions to the country music industry.”
