Sometimes, kids know just what to say to give grown-ups perspective. Months after injuring her face in a “freak accident” outside her home, Carrie Underwood revealed that her 3-year-old son, Isaiah, recently said the perfect thing to make her feel beautiful.

“This morning, Melissa, my hair and makeup artist, was starting to put my makeup on and he’s all in his pajamas and he said, ‘No, don’t do that!’” she told People. “I was like, ‘Why, baby, why are you upset?’ And he said, ‘I like you just how you are.’”

The moment was especially moving because Underwood has credited her makeup team with making her look the same as she did pre-accident. “I have a dedicated team of professionals who can spackle and paint and paste,” she joked on the Today show.

“I feel the prettiest when my kid says something that’s just super sweet,” she elaborated to People. “That made me feel pretty. I know I wasn’t [pretty] because I had just woken up and hadn’t brushed my teeth yet, but he made me feel pretty.”

Underwood has shared several sweet moments with little Isaiah. She shared an adorable photo of the two of them working out together:

And she also shared a moving moment of Isaiah watching his dad, hockey player Mike Fisher, take to the ice. “I wonder if he’ll remember seeing his daddy play,” she wrote on Instagram. “I sure hope so.”

For his part, Fisher has his own approach to making his wife feel pretty. Recently, he posted a throwback photo of Underwood’s “killer hair” from her American Idol days. And Underwood had the perfect comeback ready: “Hey, you marry a girl from the South, you get a lifetime subscription to Elnett [hairspray].”
