Carol Burnett

Carol Burnett is no party pooper. The longtime star of the silver screen enjoys a happy hour cocktail just as much as the next person, and in a recent interview with Extra, we learned exactly what that cocktail is.

At the L.A. premiere of her upcoming Apple TV+ series Palm Royale, Burnett quickly chatted with Extra correspondent Matthew Hoffman about the new show, who she was excited to work with and her upcoming 91st birthday. The variety show star has a long rap sheet in Hollywood that includes the likes of Annie, The Four Seasons, Noises Off… and her very own hit, The Carol Burnett Show. And after years of being in the business, there’s still plenty about Burnett that likens her to the rest of us, especially considering her go-to cocktail of choice.

“Ricky Martin makes you a mean drink in this series,” Hoffman begins one of his questions for Burnett, “If he's making you a drink tonight,” he continued, “what is the drink of choice?”

Immediately taking a page from Sex and the City’s Carrie Bradshaw, Burnett responded, “I like a cosmopolitan,” and paused for a second before reiterating, "that's what I like.”

The 90-year-old star is a beacon of class and elegance, and her appreciation for where she is in life does not go unnoticed. When asked about what she thought about the opportunity to work on Palm Royale, Burnett noted that she was thrilled to be a part of the project.

“When they called me about doing it, I didn't even have to read a script,” Burnett recalled. “I said, ‘I'm in,’ because of who I would be working with, and that was it.” She continued, “and then I read the script and that was the icing on the cake."

Palm Royale airs on Apple TV+ on March 20 and just like the rest of the cast, Burnett holds out hope that there is a second season in the cards.

“Well, I hope there's a second season, you know, then that'll keep me working, which I like.”

Burnett goes on to describe her approach to new projects, stating that she always takes it as something new that she’s never done before.

“So I'm happy to be working and that I’ve got all my parts. I have my hips and my knees–and I think my brain–so as long as I can keep that up and work, then I want to work.”
