Carol Burnett Brought UGGs to the SAG Awards Because She’s 82 and Can Do What She Wants

By virtue of the fact that Carol Burnett is 82 years old (or young!?), she can pretty much do whatever she wants. And that’s just what she did at the 2016 Screen Actors Guild Awards in Los Angeles, Calif., on Saturday. The legendary TV personality and comedienne stayed true to the age-old axiom that “comfort is key” when she lifted her kelly green skirt’s slit to reveal that she opted for fuzzy grey UGG slippers as her shoe of choice at some point on the red carpet.

While Burnett — who’s receiving this year’s Lifetime Achievement Award from funny girls Amy Poehler and Tina Fey — made a name for herself as the OG queen of comedy, it seems that she’ll go down in the sartorial history books as well. The decision to don rubber-soled and sheepskin-lined slippers was probably a practical choice instead of a satirical one because, let’s be real, who wouldn’t want to wear comfy kicks?

But the octogenarian didn’t entirely buck the prevailing heel trend. The actress was also photographed in patent leather pointy heels while posing for photographers along the press line. For her big moment on stage, she’ll most likely stick with the stacked shoe, but at least she has the comfy slippers waiting for her after the cameras are turned off.

In a time when there’s so much pressure put on the who, what, when, where and why when it comes to celebrities’ outfits, we salute Burnett on her sensible pre-show slippers. They say with age, comes wisdom. Young ladies—take note!
