Carmeon Hamilton Is HGTV’s Newest "Design Star: Next Gen" Winner

HGTV’s Design Star: NextGen has just crowned its first winner: Memphian Carmeon Hamilton! The win comes after many week’s worths of compettion that forced the founder of Nubi Interiors and her fellow competitors to define their interior design style throughout each challenge.

The 90-minute finale that aired last night saw Hamilton win $50,000 and the chance to have her very own HGTV show. "Throughout this competition, I created spaces that were more and more 'me.' I laid it all out on the table here," Hamilton said in last night’s finale show.

In this spin-off of the hit show Design Star, Hamilton rose to the top by impressing many of the judges each week with her use of materials and ability to bend the rules within design trends.

Throughout the show, she describes her style distinctively as “ modern bohemian," which draws inspiration from African culture and textiles. Her last interior design creation was a manifestation of this keen vision as she created a bedroom design inspired by her family’s desire to one day live in West Africa.

In an Instagram post, the Design Star: NextGen winner wrote, " Good Morning" alongside a clip of her winning the competition.

The post drew words of congratulations and support from top designers like Justina Blakeney, who wrote: “So dang excited!"

"Carmeon is an incredibly talented designer whose creativity and heart was on full display in Design Star: Next Gen," HGTV’s President Jane Latman said in a press statement. "Plus, in an age driven by clicks, likes, downloads, and views, she already has a strong social media presence with thousands of followers and that puts her in an excellent position to inspire and motivate new audiences to follow her on-air, by streams and via her social media platforms. We've got a winner."

Hamilton is still in much disbelief after this life-changing win, expresses her surprise in the finale saying, "Is this real? I just won $50,000 and my own show. I am the next Design Star!" Congratulations, Carmeon!!
