Five-time world champ Carissa Moore dropped a bomb in January when she announced she'd be stepping back from competitive surfing.

Earlier today, Moore surfed her last heat as a full-time competitor during the Lexus Pipe Pro, marking the start of the World Surf League's 2024 Championship Tour.

Her last contest at Pipeline didn't have a Hollywood ending. After two tiny waves late in the heat, she finished last with a score of 2.37. Hours later, Moore offered closure in the post below.

Moore captioned the post:

"I wanted more than anything to be able to put on a performance and share my love and joy for surfing with everyone at the Pipe Pro.

"Instead, I finished my last heat at home in challenging conditions with less than 2 points 🤪😅 Help! Haha. It’s ok. Like Ted Lasso says, 'Be a Goldfish.' Everything happens how it’s supposed to.

"This is my favorite pic from the day and the event for me. Win or lose, this amazing man and his hugs are always waiting on the shore. Over the last 13 years on tour it’s his embrace that has given me the strength to walk up the beach with my head held high no matter the outcome.

"Thank you to everyone who came down to support live and tuned in online, not only today but this whole time. I love you and I am truly grateful😊💛 #10"

An outpouring of love flooded the comments. Check 'em out:

Conner Coffin: "Congrats on an amazing competitive chapter and for inspiring so many people!"

Tatiana Weston-Webb: "luke is the people’s champ! And so are you!!! Love you"

Lakey Peterson: "Love you Riss. Thanks for all you’ve done. Truly an inspiration to us all. And you and Luke are an absolute power couple"

Selema Masekela: "A big ball of powerful sunshine you are Riss."

Tammy Moniz: "L❤ve you both."
