The summer theatre season has kicked off and Carey Mulligan’s latest effort, a one-woman show, Girls & Boys, written by Dennis Kelly and directed by Lyndsey Turner, had its opening night at the Minetta Lane Theatre to great fanfare. The show is produced by Audible and brought out theatre fans and stars including Anna Wintour, Allison Williams, Paul Dano and Zoe Kazan. The intimate setting let the audience—which also saw fellow stage thespians like Casey Cott (he stars in the Public Theater’s production of Othello) and Danielle Brooks—take in Mulligan’s captivating performance. And for almost two hours, Mulligan brought the crowd to tears of joy and laughter followed by grief, thanks to her commanding presence on-stage. Afterwards, guests joined Kelly, Mulligan, and others for light fare and drinks at nearby watering hole Carroll Place for a celebratory toast.
