Cardi B Says She's Sharing Her Grammy Win With Mac Miller

Cardi B isn't keeping her Best Rap Album Grammy win to herself. Shortly after Ariana Grande expressed her disappointment that the Academy did not honor Mac Miller, who passed away in September but was posthumously nominated in the category for his album Swimming, Cardi B ecstatically said backstage that she's sharing the Grammy with him. She had been touched that his family wanted her to win the award if he didn't.

After saying a bunch of thank yous in her backstage video, Cardi B discussed Miller. "You wanna know something? I read an article that Mac Miller’s family said that if you don’t win, they wanted me to win so I’m sharing this Grammy with you, motherfucker. Rest in peace! And thank you, everybody."

Cardi B is referring to Us Weekly's report that Miller's family was rooting for Cardi B. A source close to them told the outlet at the end of January that “Malcolm’s family was so moved when his nomination was announced. They are really hopeful that the Recording Academy will honor what they believe to be the most important and impactful rap album of the year. It will be a bittersweet moment for them if Malcolm wins. And if he doesn’t, they’re rooting for Cardi B.” Miller's mother ultimately attended the Grammys last night.

On her Twitter and Instagram, Cardi B reiterated the point she made in her video, posting a screenshot of US's piece. "WE WON A FUCKIN GRAMMY," she wrote to Miller.

Grande, by the way, had nothing against Cardi B winning the award. She clarified on her Twitter in now-deleted tweets that her vulgar reaction to Cardi getting the award was not directed to her but to the Academy, who Grande already butted heads with over her own performance. "Nothing to do w her," Grande wrote. "Good for her. I promise. I’m sorry."
