Don't squint through your tears just yet... she may be on to something.

Rapper Cardi B took to Instagram on Friday, August 12, to share the secret to keeping her hair healthy and shiny. But the revelation may leave fans a little teary.

The “I Like It” singer divulged that she recently started washing her hair with the remnants of boiled onion water—something she used to do years ago, too—but don’t worry; she swears it isn’t as pungent as you’re probably thinking.

"My last 2 washes I been boiling onions and using the water to wash my hair,” she wrote, alongside a before and after photo showing her hair looking a bit frizzy, then sleek and shiny.

“I used to do this 6 years ago when I started my healthy hair growth journey.I stopped cause I got really lazy,” she continued. “Its odorless and I notice that it’s been giving a shine to my hair.”

In just an hour, the post had racked up over 970 thousand likes aa commenters were quick to note how beautiful Cardi’s hair looked in the second photo.

Others asked for more details about her routine, wondering if the color of the onion mattered, and some even shared their own experiences with the hack.

“I have to try boiling the onions .. I was juicing them and left it too long .. & for an entire year, anytime my hair was blowed out or straightened it smelled like Sofrito 🥴🤦🏾‍♀️,” @iamjuju_ commented.

But what is it about onions that has steered us from donning goggles just to be in the same room as them to pouring their essence onto our heads?

According to Healthline, onions actually have anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial properties, which researchers have suggested can help your hair grow and enhance its health. They also point to potential benefits for those with alopecia or dry, itchy scalps, and explain how to produce your own onion extract and add it to your pre-existing hair products. According to Martha Stewart, those benefits largely stem from an onion’s high sulfur content.

While there doesn’t appear to be much research on using water that onions have been boiled in, it seems as though it may be a good alternative for those with sensitive skin, which can be triggered by pure onion juice.
