Cardi B Says She Didn't Trust Her Fiancé Offset for 'A Long Time'

In a new interview with 'GQ' magazine, rapper Cardi B opens up about her relationship with Offset, and says she didn't trust him for 'a long time.'

Last week was huge for Cardi B. The rapper released her debut album, Invasion of Privacy, on Friday (April 6) to rave reviews and a guaranteed top spot on the Billboard 200 chart this week. She then took the stage on Saturday Night Live April 7, where she confirmed her pregnancy after months of rumors and speculation. Now the "Bartier Cardi" hitmaker is the star of a big GQ feature, in which she gave an interview that covers just about everything: her insecurities, the story behind her butt injections (yes), and her engagement to Migos rapper Offset.

That last topic is sure to get the Internet talking (and, let's face it, so will the bit about her injections). Offset and Cardi B met in January 2017, and she had one stipulation before they took their relationship public: He couldn't make her "look crazy in public"—meaning, she didn't want him to see other women if they were officially an item. He assured her this wouldn't happen, and then around the 2017 World Series, he proposed with an eight-carat ring.

Controversy soon followed, though. In December 2017 Offset's iCloud was reportedly hacked, revealing what appeared to be a video of him shortly before the proposal in a hotel room with another woman. Offset never confirmed this, and Cardi B's only alluded to it with statements condemning cheating and asserting her right to make decisions about the relationship without judgment.

Cardi B doesn't comment on this story directly to GQ, but she does admit to previously having trust issues with Offset (whom, she says, she usually calls Set). "For a long time, we was in love with each other but we didn't really trust in each other," she told the magazine. "It was like a competition of who's gonna hit each other up first. I don't want to hit him up first; he will hit me up first. People used to put things in my head: 'He gonna leave you. He be f-cking with mad bitches.' People used to put things in his head: 'Cardi, she's a dog. Don't trust her.' We never really trusted each other because I always feel like he could get any girl he wants—what makes me think he's gonna want me? I think he felt the same way. Niggas want to be with me, and bitches wanna be with him."

Their love for each other, however, is what caused this merry-go-round of suspicion to ultimately end. "It was just too much playing games," she said. "He would look for me; sometimes he would take a jet to me. And it was just like, 'Let's stop playing. We really love each other. I'm scared to lose you, and you scared to lose me.' "

Cardi B says her and Offset's wedding will probably happen in the fall season—though the specific year is still a mystery. To read her full interview with GQ—including that butt injection story—click here.
