Cardi B Learned About Her Grammy Nominations as She Left Court

"I need a do-over."

If you’ve been keeping up with the music scene at all this year, you know that the name Cardi B has become impossible to ignore. The 26-year-old rapper and former television personality topped chart after chart with her debut album, Invasion of Privacy, which she released in April. Since then, she’s been raking in accolades, the latest of which include five Grammy nominations. Many of this year’s nominated artists have taken to social media to share footage of their reactions to the news, which was revealed by the Recording Academy on Friday, December 7 (this one of Dua Lipa may or may not bring tears to my eyes), but Cardi’s reaction moment was unlike any other: She found out about her nominations as she left a courthouse in Queens, New York.

E! News reports that while other stars were cozying up in preparation of Friday’s nomination announcement, Cardi was in court to address a case regarding an alleged strip club fight. Footage she shared on Twitter shows her exiting the courthouse after a favorable ruling, paparazzi shouting all around her that she’d been nominated for multiple Grammy Awards. Cardi, clearly taken aback, asks, “I am? How many?” When someone shouts “five,” she responds excitedly, raising her hand and shouting a resounding “Eow!!!”

Though fans in the tweet’s replies seem to find the reveal moment iconic, Cardi expressed that she wished it would have happened differently. “I need a do-over,” she wrote alongside two face-palm emojis.

Cardi is nominated in the categories of Album of the Year (Invasion of Privacy), Song of the Year ("I Like It"), Best Rap Album, Best Rap Performance (“Be Careful”), and Best Pop Duo/Group Performance for her feature in “Girls Like You” by Maroon 5. No matter how the Grammys unfold on February 10, this has already become an awards season she will probably never forget.
