Cardi B Channeled the Great Lisa "Left Eye" Lopes of TLC at Coachella
The first weekend of Coachella is over and those who attended the sun-drenched festival are now recovering from a weekend of enjoying their favorite musical acts in the desert. Some of the best entertainers in the business showed up to wow the crowds with their elaborate sets and wild performances, Cardi B among them. During her set, she channeled a legend — the late Lisa "Left Eye" Lopes of TLC.
Prior to her performance, Cardi B had hinted at the possibility she'd pay homage to TLC at Coachella in an Instagram post, though it was unclear whether it'd be through her look or through a musical tribute. She uploaded a picture of the iconic trio wearing all-white outfits and captioned the picture, "Mood !Boachella!!!" She wore a similar all-white outfit for her set and had her hair styled similarly to how Left Eye's hair was styled for the group's 1999 "Dear Lie" video — a look with two high ponytails on the side of her head, another one in the back, and long side-swept bangs.
Cardi B gave a stellar and star-studded performance with guests like Chance the Rapper and Kehlani, proclaiming midway through that she's "living her best life," according to Stereogum. That seems to be an understatement, as the rapper has just announced her pregnancy and she's launching a major fashion collaboration soon.
Given that the first weekend of Coachella was such a success (Beyoncé did reunite Destiny's Child, after all), it's hard to see how next weekend's encore will top it, but we'll just have to wait and see.
