Cardi B Celebrates Her Dominican Roots in Her New Music Video

Cardi B’s new video for “I Like It” pays stylish tribute to her Dominican roots.

Cardi B is hitting her stride when it comes to fashion-focused music videos. Last week, she released her own homage to Kill Bill for “Be Careful,” in which she plays a bride in a massive tulle skirt and a diamond choker; she also made an appearance in Jennifer Lopez’s extravagant, black-and-white “Dinero” music video. In the latter, the Bronx-born rapper puts her own spin on the traditional high society woman’s uniform: Cardi wielded a croquet mallet while wearing a massive feathered sun hat and a posh pleated skirt, which she finished off with a plain white bra.

Today, Cardi shared her new music video for “I Like It,” a highlight from her debut album Invasion of Privacy. Given that the song features Colombian reggaeton artist J Balvin and Puerto Rican trap singer Bad Bunny (plus the fact that it prominently samples the ’60s boogaloo classic “I Like It Like That” by Bronx-born Puerto Rican singer Pete Rodriguez), it’s fitting that the visual finds Cardi B donning over-the-top outfits with Latin visual references. She wears hair pieces à la Brazilian samba star Carmen Miranda, a Marc Jacobs beaded crochet crop top, a ruffled yellow skirt, and a plunging red gown with some feathery green earrings. Take a look at all of her colorful looks below, which show off yet another side of Cardi’s continually evolving style.
