What Cardi B’s 10-Year Challenge on Instagram Tells Us About Her Style
If you have been on the Internet today, then chances are you’ve come across the 10-Year Challenge. Then-and-now photos have been popping up side by side on Facebook and Instagram to represent just how much folks have changed in the past decade—or not as the case may be. Celebrities such as Jessica Biel and Ryan Seacrest have already hopped on the bandwagon, and now Cardi B has shared a new throwback video in the spirit of the challenge.
Cardi was still in high school 10 years ago, and the clip that she’s posted to Instagram finds her performing Lady Gaga’s “Bad Romance” onstage at what seems to be her Bronx high school’s talent show. It gives you an early glimpse at Cardi’s innate stage presence (she’s clearly already a star), but also a sense of how much her style has evolved. In the animated performance, she’s wearing a skintight, bright red jumpsuit with cut-outs along the legs that are filled in with black fishnet material and a pair of stilettos. Her fashion choices may have become more refined over the years—it’s hard to imagine high school Cardi wearing a directional Balenciaga dress or that lime green Saks Potts coat, of course—but she’s certainly retained the bold pith of her teenage wardrobe.
She didn’t accompany the post with any current imagery or video, but frankly it’s hardly necessary in her case. Do you really need a reminder of how much Cardi’s glowed up in the past year? Yeah, didn’t think so.
