Cara Delevingne Is Done With Society Telling Us How to Look

Long hair, short hair, no hair—however you want to wear it, your hair is beautiful so long as you love it. Which is why Cara Delevingne's recent haircut and Instagrams are so refreshing.
The 24-year-old model posted two photos of herself with her newly buzzed hair to Instagram on Wednesday, explaining that she's "sick of society defining beauty." She recently shaved her head for her role in the film Life in a Year, in which she plays a woman with cancer who's been told she has one year to live. Jaden Smith, who plays her boyfriend, also shaved his head for the role.
In the first photo, Delevingne shares her look from this year's Met Gala—there's probably no way you missed it considering the photos were all over just about everywhere, but in case you did, she painted her head silver and bedazzled it. And yeah, it looked just as phenomenal as it sounds. "The more we embrace who we are as people and rely less on our physical attributes, the more empowered we become," she wrote in the caption. "Beauty shouldn't be so easily defined. It is limitless."
In the second photo, the model is more dressed down in a hooded sweatshirt and no makeup. "It's exhausting to be told what beauty should look like," she writes. "I am tired of society defining beauty for us. Strip away the clothes, Wipe Off the makeup, cut off the hair. Remove all the material possessions. Who are we? How are we defining beauty? What do we see as beautiful?"
Delevingne has never been one to prescribe to any sort of beauty norms, so her recent posts aren't a huge surprise. Between her love of tattoos, goofy selfies, and work as a model, she's always proved that personal expression is far more important than just being a pretty face—"pretty" being conventional.
In a recent interview, Delevingne told Glamour she's focused on using her celebrity status to support other women. "As women, we have to build each other up, not bring each other down," she said. "Ever since I started my career modeling, a lot has changed, but there's so much that we have to do."
Her fans seem to be onboard, as is evident in the comments section of her latest posts. "You're my inspiration, amazing human begin, [sic] this is what real beauty looks like," wrote one user. Shared another: "Cara, thank you for being the person you are."
