Captain Morgan Just Released a Creamsicle-Inspired Rum

Look, we’re living in a weird moment. For people sheltering in place, it can feel like even the concept of time has ceased to exist. The good news, at least, is that many locales who’ve ordered citizens to stay home have also declared liquor stores to be essential businesses.

When you combine that with the fact that not even a worldwide pandemic can stop the launch of new products, you get a new “Summer Edition” of Captain Morgan that maybe tens of people have asked for.

What you’re looking at is Captain Morgan Orange Vanilla Twist, the perfect way to sit at home while in quarantine and pretend your drinking will boost your immune system. The orange will make you feel like you’re not going to get scurvy, and the vanilla will add a nice twist to the rum’s usual spice. It’s a 30 percent ABV beverage, which means that the orange and vanilla must take up five percent of its volume given that your standard-issue Captain Morgan spiced rum clocks in at 35 percent.

Of course, you shouldn’t actually expect something with an orange flavor in it to make your drinking experience any healthier. There’s already a “better” (if unrecommended, unproven, and potentially unhelpful) way to boost your vitamin C while drinking, but at least this could be a nice change of pace if you’re tired of normal spiced rum.

If you couldn’t already tell from the fun, vaguely floral shirt that the titular Captain is wearing on each bottle, this fruity, flavorful twist on Captain Morgan is a “summer” beverage, meaning it’ll probably be around only for a limited time.

Who knows what this summer will have in store for most of us beyond sitting in air conditioning and continuing to fear the outside world. But hey, it’s nice to know that we’ll have something different to sip on while we do it.
