The Captain America: New World Order cast is a stacked one. Here's who we can expect to appear so far (but as always with Marvel, expect some surprises):

Anthony Mackie stars as Sam Wilson, aka Captain America. Wilson was originally known as The Falcon, but he took over the role of Captain America after Steve Rogers stepped down after the events of Avengers: Endgame.

When asked what we can expect from the fourth Captain America film, Mackie joked to Parade, "Fans can expect a black dude to be Captain America. That’s the biggest shocker I can give you!"

Universal Pictures

Tim Blake Nelson will return as Samuel Sterns. Nelson last portrayed the character in 2008's The Incredible Hulk, which ended with a hint that Sterns had been transformed in the villainous Leader, a villain from Marvel Comics.

"I was actually cast before Edward [Norton], so I went down to meet Louis Leterrier and Gale Anne Hurd, and they said, ‘We want to offer you this part, he’s going to appear toward the end of this movie. And then you’ll be set up to be The Leader, the villain in Hulk 2,'” Nelson recalled to Consequence Film.

Obviously, Hulk 2 never materialized, but Nelson is happy to be able to play the role in the upcoming Captain America sequel.

"I was saddened by the fact that they weren’t going to do a second Hulk with Edward, and I didn’t imagine they’d cross me over if they were going to do one with Mark. So I wasn’t imagining I’d get to do The Leader 18 years later," he said. "While I never imagined it would happen. I will tell you—absolutely, I thought about it all the time. I was blessed to get the call, and I really have to thank Kevin Feige and everyone at Marvel for believing in that character enough to bring him on."

Harrison Ford will star as Thaddeus Ross. Ford is taking over the role from William Hurt, who sadly passed away in 2022. While the loss of Hurt is tragic, if we're being honest, adding Harrison Ford to anything makes it about 200 times better—especially because he's playing the President this time around, and we all remember how badass he was in Air Force One. Bad guys better get off of his plane!

Sebastian Stan returns as Bucky Barnes/The Winter Soldier. Kevin Feige revealed that Bucky Barnes will also be the leader of the Thunderbolts.

"That's another one. We've got a lot of things that start shooting relatively soon. What's fun about that, and I sort of said this at D23, is that they are barely heroes," Feige told Entertainment Weekly. "None of them would consider themselves heroes. When your de facto leader is Bucky Barnes, that's sort of all you need to know. That's the trickle down."

There has been some speculation that Leila Taylor may actually be the villain Diamondback in Captain America 4.

Axelle/Bauer-Griffin/FilmMagic

Shira Haas has been cast as Sabra. The character is based on an Israeli superhero from the comics. Haas previously starred in the critically acclaimed Netflix series Unorthodox.

Marvel received backlash after the character's inclusion was announced for a few reasons: One, the studio was accused of white-washing Israel's human rights abuses in Palestine. Two, "Sabra" is both a nickname for Israeli-born Jews as well as a Palestinian refugee camp in Lebanon where a Lebanese Christian militia murdered hundreds of residents; Israeli troops reportedly permitted the militia to enter the camp and didn't take any measures to stop the massacre.

"Captain Apartheid" began trending on Twitter after the announcement of Sabra being in the film. Marvel Studios said in a statement at the time, “While our characters and stories are inspired by the comics, they are always freshly imagined for the screen and today’s audience, and the filmmakers are taking a new approach with the character Sabra who was first introduced in the comics over 40 years ago."

What is Captain America: New World Order storyline?

The plot of Captain America: New World Order has not been revealed. The story will likely revolve around Sam Wilson coming to terms with being the new Captain America.

In a recent interview with Empire (via Comic Book Resources), Mackie hinted that Wilson may have trouble leading the Avengers, explaining, "Sam is the only character without superpowers. He's just a regular dude hanging out with a bunch of weirdos. Being from New Orleans, I've been in a few fights. And heart and charisma never helped me in a fight. That usually just got me beat up. So that might cause an issue when you go fight somebody like Thanos!"
