Late last year, Capital One announced a new program: a selection of partner hotels bookable with Capital One miles, dubbed “Premier Collection.” Now, as of February 2023, the program is live and available to select Capital One cardholders.

Those with a premium Capital One card can book sought-after hotels — such as The Roundtree, Amagansett in New York's Hamptons or The Madrona in Healdsburg, California — and receive a complimentary breakfast, a $100 “experience credit,” space-available upgrades, and more.

We gave the Premier Collection a spin. Here’s everything you need to know about how to use the latest offering from Capital One Travel.

What is the Capital One Premier Collection?

The Capital One Premier Collection is a luxury hotel program offering benefits at partner hotels like daily breakfast for two, bonus miles on paid reservations, and the option to redeem Capital One miles to pay for the stay. Reservations must be made through Capital One Travel.

Capital One’s most premium credit card holders — those with the Capital One Venture X Rewards credit card or Capital One Venture X Business card — have access.

Similar programs from competing card issuers exist — take Chase's Luxury Hotel & Resort Collection or American Express' Fine Hotels + Resorts. However, Capital One has several exclusive partnerships with coveted hotels.

Capital One Premier Collection's Hotel Partners

It’s clear that Capital One focused on quality, not quantity, in selecting hotels for the Premier Collection. The collection includes brands such as 1 Hotels, Six Senses, Proper Hotels, and properties within larger hotel portfolios like Small Luxury Hotels and The Leading Hotels of the World.

“We focused on finding the places that our customers said that they sought out, which were more local, that were destinations in and of themselves, and had a certain cool factor,” Matt Knise, managing vice president and head of Capital One Travel, told Travel + Leisure.

The following properties are exclusive to Capital One:

Other Important Capital One Premier Collection Perks

Travelers receive an assortment of premium benefits including a $100 experience credit (or the local equivalent) to use on dining, spa, and other activities during their stay; daily breakfast for two; complimentary Wi-Fi; and other as-available perks including early check-in, late checkout, and room upgrades.

Knise noted that the Capital One experience credit is unique, as compared to offerings from competitors, since “all participating properties allow you to use the credit for food and beverage purchases.” At some properties, the credit may also be used toward other experiences (think: spa treatments), but cardholders have to call their hotel to confirm.

All of this means booking through the Premier Collection for a night at The Ned NoMad in New York City, for instance, would include $100 toward a dinner at Cecconi's, a classic Italian restaurant, or a round of drinks at the 1920s-style bar, Little Ned.

Another major benefit is the ability for cardholders to earn 10 miles per dollar when paying with their card. “Even without having to join a loyalty program, customers are getting 10 times rewards plus all the other perks,” Knise added.

How to Use Your Miles With the Premier Collection

When booking through Capital One Travel, cardholders will have the option to redeem their Capital One miles at a rate of one cent per point. That means a $1,000 hotel booking at Rock House in Turks and Caicos, for example, will require 100,000 Capital One miles — or any combination of cash and miles.

For Knise, the Premier Collection and these booking options are all about “finding places throughout the journey where we can keep adding value.”
