I Can't Get Over This Epic Loc-Crown Look

From Cosmopolitan

There are eye-catching looks, styles that turn heads, and then, there's this loc crown. If you're in awe after seeing this look, you're not alone. I mean, just look at the video—this regal style is creative, innovative, and definitely IG clickbait. You know what else is great about this style? Instead of reminding everyone that you're a queen, you can just let your hair do the talking. This week on The Braid Up, our resident hair expert, Stasha Harris, passes the mic to Sharelle Holder, Maryland-based hairstylist, to create a look that's in a league of its own. Keep reading for all the tips and tricks for making this style your own.

If you're bold enough to rock this look, definitely keep these tips in mind:

1. Re-twist your locs. This will make sure your locs are sleek, fresh, and ready to go. Your stylist should do this by smoothing edge control gel (or curl cream, whatever floats your boat) through each loc, and then twisting them tightly.

2. Throw your hair into a high ponytail. Like, an Ariana Grande-level high ponytail. You can secure your pony with a wide elastic, or you can opt to wrap a few locs around the base of the updo and tie them together.

3. Braid the locs. Your stylist is going to take about four to five locs at a time and criss-cross them together, creating a larger loc braid. These are the braids that will come together to form your crown.

4. Sew the braided locs together. Finally, the mane (lol) event! Your stylist is going to bend and twist the braided locs into the shape of a crown, and then sew them to the base of the ponytail to finish off the royal look.
